Default MS6 Oil Drain Line Flange

Matt, and I have a lot of history with the MS6, and a whole lot more love. I've been paying attention to the MS6 struggles here. It's taken too long, and this "check back in 4 weeks" nonsense to get a part machined puts it over the top. Long story short, I'm going to do try to solve this issue.

Code, I might get in touch with you soon about test fitting for me.

Thanks for actually looking for a solution for us and to all those that have helped this cause! I'm looking to go BT sometime in the future (not anytime soon) and cannot express how awesome it is that a MSF vendor is stepping up to help.

I just wanted to express my interest in this if it helps a solution come to market for the 6. If this is a one-off run item more like a group buy rather than a continuing item, please announce I will buy sooner than later to support this if needed.

In for results! Drain line is one of the last things I need to buy for my swap. If this doesn't work out I've got something in mind (and my amazon wish list) that should work.

Need input from everyone actually needing this.
Does this NEED to be adjustable/swivel? I'm not familiar with all the turbo options out there. Can one angle, assuming it's made to accept whatever fitting you need, work for everybody?

Likely a one run, unless someone makes a group that's interested in the future. Already expecting to not make money on this, I'd rather not tie up space on a shelf in addition.

IMO yes it should be adjustable/swivel because people who run top mount setups will need a different angle I believe.

I was planning on using this fitting for the block side, it allows for adjustability

Why wouldn't they be able to put a different AN/JIC37 fitting on it to point it a different direction? If you have pictures showing any of what they might need, it would help.

That fitting won't work. Too tall.

I suppose they could use another fitting to change the angle, unfortunately I don't have any pictures showing this but most top mount manifolds move the turbo towards the passenger side from what I've seen.

I'm pretty sure it'll work, I've seen some people on FB use it with success. What do you think it is going to contact from being too tall?

@Farhan@DM; check my update -- I am going to order another banjo fitting, if the threads are the same (they should be) I could mail you guys the useless banjo fitting so you can design a flange around it.

I advise holding off on ordering another fitting. I won't even ask for 2 weeks, just give me 1 to get things figured out. I think you'll be happy.

Won't need the banjo fitting.

I had a leaky turbo drain line on my car for the past two years since I got it back from SP63. It's leaked the entire time, at times from certain area's. Not sure if it works for every turbo but the below links worked together to build a non-leaky one for mine.

To be universal I think it does need to swivel. The actual hose portion is so short that the fittings on both the block and turbo need to be damn near pointing right at one another to avoid kinking with a hose fat enough to provide adequate flow. Then on the turbo side there are different sized chra's that the line is attached to and different sized exhaust housings that the line needs to steer around. Both of these things affect this angle.
That's just one angle though. It still needs to come back towards the firewall as well.
That is the best I can explain it. It's hard to actually understand quite what you're dealing with until you've had to fab a line on a 6 for yourself.

and this is why you are awesome @Farhan@DM;. It's a shame I won't ever be pulling my drain line on the 6, otherwise I'd want one of these. Or maybe I should buy one in case I decided to go bigger turbo...

Make it 1.75" just in case..... Not sure if one can fit an Allen key on the lower bolt with the TC on but it is worth a shot.

I still think the top of the flange (only around the fitting) should be a bit thicker than the bottom, about 10 percent thicker will give you a nice 5-degree angle which should be good enough for relieving some of the stress on the line and the flange.

I was going to send code monkey one of the prototype I took pictures of, but decided against it. It will work with some modification, but no sense sending him something that isn't the final piece.

Round 2 has been designed, and is off for machining. It will not have the angle away from the block that some have requested. It would significantly increase the cost, and I don't think you need it.

Ballpark on price? Is it going to be similar to the one that comes in the atmosphere kits?

I asked if it NEEDED to be a swivel. The feedback was yes, swivel. So it will not be that type of flange.

Can't comment on price, yet. The fitting will probably cost more than the flange, to be honest.

Fair point.

...I never signed up for the caliper brackets.

ORB swivel fittings get longer as they are rotated/swivel. Sizes are min, and max you might see with a new stock gasket.
It does not tilt out, as that would be expensive, and, I think, unnecessary.
It requires a specific XRP fitting. Cheapest I've seen it is $55.
The captive washer on the fitting needs to be reduced in diameter; I did it with a dremel in 5 minutes.

I'll likely send this to @Code Monkey; to get his nod. Then we'll let @Matt@DamondMotorsports; take care of you guys.

Looks pretty sweet! Do you have a picture of the block side of the flange? Just wondering how big the hole opening is and how much material is left on the edges.

The XRP fitting you speak of is, I assume, an XRP push-on hose end, page 11 of this catalog? If so, it is possible that a 30-degree or a 60-degree end could work (assuming they swivel).

Plenty of material. You need the shallow 10 orb/an adapter. Can put whatever 10 an fitting on the other side.

Perfect timing! I was planning on using the oem return in the next month or so when my gtx3071 goes it. Sounds like this may make my life easier!

@Farhan@DM; Looks awesome! So the flange uses ORB threads? I'm not familiar with that thread type. Why was that chosen over NPT or AN?

Edit: Are you using the part # 989110?

Yes, 989110

ORB/o-ring port/SAE straight thread/SAE J514 o-ring fittings are all the same. The thread is the same as the AN/JIC 37 fittings you see everywhere, just that there is an o-ring port machined in. Code Monkey's banjo fitting is an ORB.

Not an AN fitting because they're a metal-metal seal. They go loose with the smallest bit of rotation. I think that's a bad idea when your hose might actually be rotating the fitting out. They also give you a smaller opening for a fitting size. The XRP 989110 is a JIC37 on the other end, but you'll see it opens up at the angle.

Not NPT because I've seen too many leaks at this interface. The fitting would be cheaper with NPT, but may also leak a month later.
Mazdazilla6 and Mauro_Penguin like this.

Farhan, is there anyway Matt would be able to include the fitting with the flange to help on price a bit or is it too low run of a part where that's not possible?

I still do not know which fitting it is, @Farhan@DM; do you have the part number?

Just giving away part numbers that he could sell at a markup.
