Its the Steering Wheel Angle(maybe) Sensor. It detects if the wheel is turned so the car can limit boost. Unplugging the sensor allows you to full boost while in corners (and apparently does not affect anything else).

yeah.

me wants 20 psi while doing 90 degree turn (hahaha understeer ftw)

it also turns off the dsc/tcs, and some claim it lets the car overboost

No.

TC will remain lit at all times on your dash, DSC is still switcheable as per normal. ABS is unaffected.

There are zero draw backs guys.

My thoughts exactly... one of the ways DSC determines if you're 'out of control' is to compare how much you 'want' the car to turn/rotate by looking at your steering wheel input (the SWAS) and comparing that to the readings from a yaw sensor. When those two don't match up DSC takes actions to correct. Without the SWAS, the car doesn't have a freaking clue if you're understeering, oversteering, etc. DSC may not 'freak out' if it unplugged, but I don't see how it could properly operate.

i'll go ahead and keep my SWAS plugged in... idk if the Cobb map gives me more boost when turning but it's pretty clear that WOT + turn = understeer + wheelspin. what's the point unless you're trying to spin up the tires..? maybe with some sticky-ass tires it'd be better to have full snail.

IMHO the stock config is 'good enough' for turning. that being said, i can think of times when i 'know better' than the ECU as to what i'm trying to do.

PS i've read that the following method gives full boost when turning:

1) turn ignition on but don't turn over the engine
2) hold DSC button for 5secs
3) turn on engine, DSC and TC buttons should be illuminated

anyone know if this works?

Working method that gives full boost when turning:

1) hold DSC button
2) when still holding DSC button, turn ignition on and wait for TC icon flash
3) release DSC button
4) turn on engine, DSC and TC icons should be illuminated

This give You full boost when turning until Your ignition is turned off.

No it doesn't. This is very old news and doesn't totally kill dsc & tcs. Use a tuning solution to get full control of your throttle plate and you will still see the cut out (or just push the car harder). Unplugging the swas is the only way to totally kill it on gen1 cars. Good luck finding a real solution for gen2.

Erroneous! Must unplug the SWAS. Have had mine unplugged for a while now

Damn, never heard of this. Wish I would have a long time ago. What are your impressions of unplugging the SWAS compared to being plugged in. Full boost with turns would be great. Thanks Tyler for any input

should be like 4 screws on the bottom and you may want to drop the bigger panel but dont quote me. get under it and look up should see some screw holes like 3-4 total.

Sorry to dig up an old thread but I am replacing my clockspring and the new one doesn't have the socket to plug swas cord in. Does the old swas sensor come off the old clock spring?
