Default Cobb access port / Tuning info looking to know if i am on the right path.

Hello, I am new to the speed3 modding world
I am not looking for someone to research for me I just want to know if i am thinking the right way. I don't want to mess up my car. I have been just reading the forums for 2 months trying to absorb all the info. There is a ton of it on here.

Current parts i have to install.

Corksport SRI with turbo inlet
CP-E DP catted.
rear motor mount insert (i know nothing to do with tuning.)

From what I have read I need to get an Cobb access port if i want these mods to work correctly with my car?

If I do not do an access port I will not get the power out of the mods. I have not seen another option that would give me the same benifits of the AP? am I missing a better option that provides the easy of plug and play?

I know i can get a custom tune but would rather not do that. I think for the same price the AP could get me where i want and still be able to do monitoring of my car.

I am not looking to do big power on the car. Just some bolt on mods to give it more power but continue to use it as a daily driver.

I guess I am just looking for a "hey noob you are on the right track" or a "do some more reading and learn more before you post!"

Also on a side note. Does anyone know of a shop in the richmond va area that would do a DP instalation? I would even drive to NoVa. Its a little cold out for me to do this in my driveway.

Thank you for the help.

you dont have to get a ap but what you are going to want is a fuel pump upgrade. your pressure will be sure to drop with the mods

While you don't need a tune with the parts you are planning for, you will get the maximum out of the car with one. That doesn't mean you won't gain any power with just the bolt-ons, because you definitely will. You could run it for a while and then, down the road, get a tune. The AP and CPE's standback are the most flexible products for tuning, and the Hypertech is just a plug and play deal with canned tunes (no custom tuning).

The AP has a datalogging feature that is worth the money, alone. The standback and hypertech do not have this functionality. Each have their ups and downs; there are good threads about this.

So to add a downpipe and intake i also have to add a tmic and a fuel pump? maybe my question was not clear. i just wanted to know if adding a dp and intake along with a tune will be safe to run and ok for the car.

if i have to do a fuel pump and a top mount intercooler to upgrade my downpipe and air intake.. i might as well sell the car and just get something that is out of the box faster.

no it will not... your fuel pump IS going to fail with flow mods as it cant meet higher volume demands

the stock tmic runs the turbo too hard to attain stock boost, let alone upped psi from a tune

spend a little more $$$ to alleviate these issues or drop more money on a new car

not true....you can run these mods without needing a fuel pump......you can monitor your fuel pressure on the cobb ap and if you see that it is not holding then ok, but i have ran the mods in my sig for the last 6 months with no problems with fuel pressure

yes leave it up to chance and run your car on the stock fuel pump

an upgraded pump is just a strong suggestion

yeah but most likely the fp WILL drop. and that money he spent towards the ap could have bought an UPFP and he will still be able to run the car balls to the wall unlike with ap, intake, dp and fuel pressure dropping to 900psi

intake, dp, fp, fmic, ap is the route i would go, in that order.

my fuel pressure dropped with intake, tp and ap. so his pump will drop pressure with intake and dp, so UPFP should be next then FMIC to keep the bats cooler thus not losing power b.c of the shitty tmic

KMDtuning.com or cp-e.com

you can also order internals from goapr.com or awe-tuning.com ... everything is catered to AUDI/VW except for cp-e

Thank you for the information.. but I think I need a little more help. I do not want to have to rebuild my FP. I would rather just buy one that I can instal. what would be the best bet.

I know cp-e makes one but $700 might be a little high on the price for me.

So there is no other option for a drop in FP for this car? CP-E and everything else has to be rebuilt by me?

The only other option would be to send your pump out and have them do the rebuild. That would still require you to unhook the lines, pull the pump, and re-install. Check with KMD to see if they would do it. BUT, once you have it out of the car, its not much more to pull it apart and do it yourself. The hardest part is getting the damn thing out.
