(Thread Starter) | Not Ranked : 0 score Greetings! Been out of the Mazda market for a bit and figured it was time to jump back in. Why? Because Wilwood has released their own factory Wilwood front Big Brake Kit for the Mazda 3! This new kit combines 13 x 1.10 2pc hats and rotors with the super sexy and low profile (wheel friendly) Wilwood Dyna Pro 6 (DP6) caliper for all Mazda 3- going back to about 2004 I believe. Now if you've been around your 3 for any length of time..you know TCE worked this platform along with the 6 for a number of years. There are to benefits to the new Wilwood factory kit tho: first it's produced by Wilwood in its entirety. That means a lower cost to you! The second thing is that "back in the day" we did not have the DP6 caliper to work from so TCE kits used either the FSL or BSL6 parts. Both of which added to wheel fit problems. The DP6 offers the benefits of a six pot caliper but not at the expense of clearance we dealt with before. So what's the big deal? Why not just get it on line from one of the big box retailers? Buying from TCE you get not only 20yrs of Wilwood experience but some of the best values you'll find. Being a "dealer to the dealers" TCE is able to offer you exceptional pricing and other extras you may not yet know about. AND in due time we'll once again add our own rear kit to the menu (yes we did that years ago too) as well as a new front kit option others will not be producing! ************************************************** ************************************************** ****************** FROM THE CUT CONVERSATION:
Agreed. For the most part those are reasonable sized. Even for modest track use. There's the option for caliper kits for those rotors as produce for a number of other cars; not really a huge market but an option. Radial mount FNSL6 kits for example on the 13.6 would be a nice part- beefy forged calipers, stiff radial mounts, 16mm pads, etc. Based upon former and similar sold for about $1150

(Thread Starter) | Not Ranked : 0 score What do you get for a $1245.99 list price? 2pc hats and rotors. Both larger and wider than stock. Directional cast and far lighter than stock. Can you say durable? Wilwood Dyna Pro 6 calipers with quick change pad retainer clips. Pre applied powder coat finishes. BLACK or RED standard. Don't like black or red? I can hook you up; YELLOW, BLUE, SILVER.....maybe silver with red logos? Yup got a Focus kit working like that right now should be awesome! Mounting brackets and all related hardware. Wilwood BP10 Street Pads. The default pad for both Wilwood and TCE/Wilwood kits for the past five years or so. Proven and effective for most enthusiast level requirements. Modest dust and stable at elevated temps. Front SS braided hose. Firm up the pedal and plumb it right with these parts. *Does not work with factory hoses or alternate brand hose kits designed for stock calipers. All that and a total shipping weight of about 50lbs is sure to knock a good 6-8lbs off each front corner! And of course when you buy from TCE you know you won't pay List Price. Ever. You might be stunned at what this powerhouse value will run you. Call, Email, PM and I'll let you know.

(Thread Starter) | Not Ranked : 0 score No clue. Won't even make a guess. The pads are X" tall but know that the nose of the caliper could well contact a 9.25" dia hat before the mount height of the caliper is correct. Proceed with caution.

(Thread Starter) | Not Ranked : 0 score Don't have the offset data here to help you. Might be something I can get you later in the week. Rotors are 1.10 so the caliper with full pads better fit. My guess is "close" but then most BBK set ups move things inward to gain spoke clearance.

(Thread Starter) | Not Ranked : 0 score Had to do some serious digging on these. Going back to 2005 here. Original 11.75 Rear Rotor Kit. I think I'll stick with this for the current set up as well. There's ample gain here both in mass and function without a huge gain in weight we don't want. And 11.75 is common to so many other applications it'll keep the retail price down to under $600.

(Thread Starter) | Not Ranked : 0 score These? Look promising. The DP6 set up requires 1.04 gap to the spoke. The FNSL6 caliper is wider by .150 so it will need another 2mm or so of space.

(Thread Starter) | Not Ranked : 0 score The DP6 fit to the 2pc hat and rotor create one of the lowest profile set ups you'll find for this platform. Moving to the TCE/Wiwood kits and the larger FNSL6 calipers that gap behind the spokes is reduced a bit...fatter calipers and thicker pads take up more space. Both look promising to the wheels shown tho.

(Thread Starter) | Not Ranked : 0 score I need to look closer at some rear rotor options. If it's what it 'might' be then I'd say a month or so and I'll be able to come up with more rear kits. So there's no mistake: we're talking a 2pc hat and rotor only. Not a complete kit. And an estimated cost of $600. Right now you're being priced with the front kit, front hose and rear hoses only.

(Thread Starter) | Not Ranked : 0 score I am not proposing a replacement caliper set up on a stock rotor. I'm looking at a 12" rotor (2pc hat/rotor) with a relocation bracket for the stock caliper. Done them by the hundreds on a number of cars. Keeps the stock caliper and e-brake. Increases the rotor mass and effective radius while reducing the overall weight. The dual action Wilwood caliper with the four pot is a RallyDesign exclusive not sold here in the US. It's a nice part but has many short comings. If it's an option and what you desire I'm not the one to buy it from. I'll stick with the oe set up and know that it's simple, fairly easy to install and very effective.

If I follow you correctly then you get an 11.9" disc and use the 5 caliper brackets or slider cage, and the 3 caliper in it. keeps the parking brake. And bolts to the rear knuckle. If all that is correct...then there is not a lot of value in a $600 rear kit. I get it. If you can buy all that (rotors and brackets) for $200 why not do it? Seems the perfect match for pairing with a 13" or 14" front kit to me. Full circle then: right back to the front kit with both sets of ss hoses and you're golden.

Haha, thats my plan as of right now, but I like the willwood kits for the easy swapping of the pads. Thus my hope that a rear kit like the DP6 would be something down the pipe line. Either way, I will be keeping you kit in mind. With or without 2 piece rears. Edit: I found a thread on it. Looks like not quite an inch. 11" to 11.9" Mazda 5 rear brake conversion

| Not Ranked : 0 score two piece rotors buy you unsprung weight... if you could get floaters to fit in place of stock I suspect you could sell a few sets of theses without calipers (front and back).

The same set up of old; 2pc hats and rotors (12") with the floating caliper on it. Relo brackets and mount spacers. Already done it. But what I'm not sure of is the value. If I'm at $600 for all that and you can do the oe application for $200 why not save the $400? Sure un sprung wight is nice...but the difference is pretty minimal. Certainly not something you'd 'feel' driving. In all honesty; it would be more for the matching appearances than anything.

(Thread Starter) | Not Ranked : 0 score Replacement 2pc fronts? Haven't. Can't say anyone ever asked. There are some 2pc for the Focus ST that may be close come out from Stoptech I read about. Don't quote me but I think I read about $850pr. Can't possibly see why anyone would do that and keep the stock caliper when for a couple hundred more you'd have a complete brake kit-with a bit larger and better rotor as well.

(Thread Starter) | Not Ranked : 0 score Interesting. Looking at the Focus ST rotor, it's the same rotor other than the change to the bolt circle and center bore. They are 5 x 108 and a 2.500 center register. Seems the ST hat and rotor kit would work for you with some minimal changes. Overall 'height' of the rotor is the same, diameter the same and width the same. Still don't think they'll do $800 tho.

| Not Ranked : 0 score Wow. It's been a long while since I've looked at those pictures. I still miss my 3 sometimes.. Wilwood caliper clearance on my 19" wheel: The brakes were top notch with perfect fitment. I wouldn't hesitate to buy from Todd again if I was in the market for some brakes...

(Thread Starter) | Not Ranked : 0 score Thanks for both claiming it and the props. Things have improved in a number of ways since those kits as well.

| Not Ranked : 0 score I wish i could justify new brakes on a car with 6k on it haha. When my pads wear out and need to be changed I just might make the switch. This is a hell of a deal for 2pc rotors, 4 piston calipers and SS brake lines front and rear. Is a spacer required to fit the stock gen 2 wheels?

(Thread Starter) | Not Ranked : 0 score Working on new 14" dedicated bracket folks. Opted to run a few of them vs the universal nature of the 13" to 14" conversion. Just makes for a nicer item. Should see those wrapped up in a couple of weeks. Meanwhile....still got the factory kits available at the normal TCE everyday low price. Don't over look this bad-boy if you are after some value!
