LED Tail Lights With Animated Binker

Been working on a prototype for a custom LED Tail light. Here are the rough results. Will have it mounted in the car soon.


Also the flicker at the beginning is like a start up sequence, will be changed to something a little more elegant lol, it was programming from the last project.

I had a video that went with this, but for some reason the first half of the video has lines on it so picture for now. Keep in mind, these where cheap LEDs i happen to have laying around from other projects, and only was used to prototype it. The next ones will be substantially brighter.

P.S. It has been raining every other day so excuse the dirty car.

I'm actually on the fence to buy LED gen 2 tail lights. Maybe I'll wait for this.

honestly a car wash is like 7 bucks, and would be a way bigger visual upgrade, but keep goin.

Im excited to start on the Gen2 tail lights, they are a little more aggressive looking. I hope to have two packages of the tail lights, one with a start up sequence, like when you get in the car and crank it the tail lights will perform some animation and then go back to normal.

I sure will keep going! I am not driving the car right now, i work from home so leave rarely and when i do i use my wifes car. And honestly when i wash my car i'll do better quality job than a 7 dollar job, which obviously will be done before the final release of these tail lights. I would never attempt to sell the lights with the car in the condition.

I get where you are coming from, its one of those things that not everybody is in to. However i want to get into some video editing and getting out to more meets. So in those instances it would be cool to show off. Plus id like it for my own satisfaction, which is why we do any kind of visual modification.

But i will have 2 models, one with the start up sequence one without. And honestly its not that much to add the start up sequence, programming and hardware wise (which also means it would not be much of a price increase). ATM i planning for 20-50 dollars to add the startup sequence. Basically the price will just add to the cost of the build, but wont charge extra for labor as its not extra labor at this point. Unless someone wanted a specific animation, that would be a small fee.

I don't have an issue with the animation sequence itself. I think it would he handy to show off at a car show or the like. It could be on a playback loop. But doesn't make sense as a key-on sequence.

misread what you wrote lol, editing my statement. Loop mode is still being decided on. Not because i dont want to do it, but at the moment my job limits me from developing and releasing mobile apps, and if i was going to do a loop mode id really like to integrated with a phone. If that doesnt pan out, i could possibly have a remote for it, but that seems like a lot of hardware added to a keyring. Another option would be a physical switch, but im not so keen on that. But as far as the key on sequence, its all for design, sometimes its the small things.

I'll see what i can do, and in the mean time, im going to be working on just getting a demo of how it will work.
