\r\n Default\r\n The Official MS3 Suspension Thread\r\n
\r\n
\r\n \r\n \r\n\r\n \r\n
\r\n \r\n Here is a comprehensive list of all suspension systems and components available for the MS3.
\n
\nSPRINGS
\n
\nAutoExe Low Down Spring
\nDrop: 1.2" front, 1.2" rear | Part Number: MBA700 | ~$500
\n
\n
\n
\nStraight from Japan and designed for the Mazdaspeed "Axela"!
\nThe roll is placed under control by the spring rate intensified within the range that has less impact on a ride quality, so that the vehicle height can be brought down by approx. 30 mm. For the riding taste, the car stability is improved by bringing its center of gravity down, which provides a desired tendency to the “person who enjoys driving.” Moreover, the clearance of tire house becomes reduced, which makes the whole car look low. As a result, a dynamic feeling is provided to the styling.
\n

\n
\nCorksport MS3 Lowering Spring Set
\nDrop: 1.2" front, 1.0" rear | Part Number: Axl-3-288-10 | ~$210
\nApproximately +25% increase in spring rate over OEM
\n
\n
\n
\nGive your car the performance appearance and edge you have been looking for with the CorkSport Lowering Springs. By reducing ride height approximately 1.2"" in the front and 1.0"" in the rear, adding the CorkSport Lowering Springs to your Mazdaspeed 3 will result in a quicker turning response, crisper road feel, a more aggressive appearance, and a firmer spring rate, while maintaining excellent ride quality.
\n
\nThe CorkSport Advantage:
\n
\n• Lower your car by approx. 1.2"" front and 1.0"" rear for improved handling and less wheel gap
\n• Crafted from high tensile strength spring steel for long lasting quality and performance
\n• OEM finish to ensure lasting durability and rust protection
\n• Average 25% increased spring rate over stock spring rate
\n• Backed by CorkSport limited two-year warranty
\n• CorkSport Service and Support: Receive full color installation instructions, all of the needed installation hardware, and knowledgeable telephone installation support.

\n
\nEibach Pro-Kit
\nDrop: 0.8" front, 0.7" rear | Part Number: 5549.140 | ~$205
\n
\n
\n
\nThe Eibach Pro-Kit lowering spring set improves your vehicle\'s looks and performance. Pro-Kit springs lower the vehicle\'s center of gravity, reducing body roll in the turns, dive under braking, squat during acceleration and give the car a more solid secure feel at all times. Pro-Kit Springs also minimize the ugly fender gap that makes a car look "lifted." Eibach Pro-Kit Springs..." The look that performs."
\n
\n=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=
\n
\nEibach Sport Line
\nDrop: ~2.0" front, ~2.0" rear | Part Number: 4.4955 | ~$240
\n
\n
\n
\nEibach Sportline is the extreme-performance spring set created for the extreme enthusiast - the one who craves a race-car attitude for maximum street performance - with the lowest possible drop, but with the exceptional ride quality you expect from Eibach.
\n
\nEngineered with the same care as our Pro-Kit springs, Eibach Sportline springs achieve legendary handling by aggressively lowering your car’s center of gravity, using our precision engineered progressive spring rates.
\n
\nBy radically lowering your car’s center of gravity, our Sportline springs dramatically reduce squat during acceleration, body roll in corners and nose-dive under braking. By using our proprietary, progressive spring design, our Sportline springs provide the ultimate balance between high performance, extreme lowering and comfortable ride quality. When combined with today’s wild 18, 19 or 20 wheels and tires, the result is a car that handles just as white-hot as it looks.
\n

\n
\nH&R Sport Springs
\nDrop: 1.3" front, 1.2" rear | Part Number: 51643-2 | ~$230
\n
\n
\n
\nH&R Sport Springs are designed and engineered for each particular application and are the correct spring rate for low aggressive looks, high performance handling and no ride harshness!
\n
\nThe most popular spring in H&R\'s line-up, Sport Springs will lower your vehicle an average of 1.5 - 2 inches (depending upon the make and model of your vehicle) for a lower center of gravity, improved handling and a more aggressive appearance. Sport springs feature more control than that of the OE Sport spring, but is still comfortable for daily use. Sport springs are an excellent choice for street and occasional track use.

\n
\nFor most vehicles including full-size sedans, SUVs and trucks, Bilstein performance shock absorbers and struts have been designed to provide improved handling and ride control without sacrificing comfort. Fade-free performance is achieved by using high gas pressure, monotube design with a large diameter shock body. The HD Series is ideal for heavy hauling and occasional off-road use.
\n
\nThe Bilstein Principle
\nAll Bilstein gas pressure struts/inserts and gas pressure shock absorbers operate on the same principle. They are manufactured with the rod pointing down into the strut tube, thereby utilizing the thicker, stouter body portion of the shock absorber to dissipate side loads. Consequently, due to the increased diameter and surface of the pressure tube, the Bilstein gas pressure strut/insert or shock is better suited to take increased side loads when compared with the conventional version.
\n
\nAdditional advantages, based on development strongly influenced by the motorsport industry, include greater stability, better road handling, and accurate steering. This combined with extremely high quality manufacturing and materials, means Bilsteins will last approximately four times as long as Original Equipment.
\n
\nBattling Heat Build Up
\nConventional shocks trap the heat within the shock body and prevent adequate dissipation, making them prone to heat build up, fade and eventual failure.
\n
\nBilstein\'s patented design allows the excessive heat from the oil to transfer to the outer surface of the shock body and dissipate more efficiently. The dividing piston also permits the oil to expand as heat builds, preventing aeration (foaming) and viscosity loss. This allows the shock to maintain full damping characteristics as temperatures rise.
\n
\nThe tube of a Bilstein gas pressure shock or strut is fabricated using a special extrusion method. This process achieves an extremely tight peak-to-valley tolerance and maintains consistent wall thickness. Bilstein\'s seamless monotube design provides superior tube strength while maximizing heat dissipation and shock life.
\n
\nRide Comfort and Performance Without Compromise
\nThe piston head design allows independent tuning of the compression and rebound damping forces to provide optimum ride comfort and performance without compromise. It features fewer parts than most conventional designs. The product\'s simple, yet exceptionally functional digressive design contributes to the extreme durability and long life of Bilstein Shock Absorbers.
\n
\nBetter Built
\nBilstein\'s shock bodies are precision formed through a unique seamless extrusion process. This provides superior strength along with high finish tolerances. The shock body is then treated with a special paint finish durable enough to withstand grueling 240-hour salt spray tests. The finished body is mated with a solid, induction-hardened steel chrome plated and polished shaft, machined valving components and highest quality seals.
\nBilstein products are backed by an aftermarket lifetime warranty.

\n~$1,160
\n
\n
\n
\nH&R continues its innovative design and manufacture of new suspension technologies with the introduction of their Street Performance Coil-Over Kits. Street Performance Coil-Over Kits lower an average of 1.0" to 2.5" for optimized performance and ride.
\n
\nBlueprinted as coil-overs (not just a modified shock body), the H&R units are hand-assembled in Germany by H&R Speziafedern under rigid ISO 9001 and German TV standards. Strict attention to the function of the complete suspension system is the number one design priority.
\n
\nLike the Coil-Over Suspension Kits, the Street Performance Coil-Over Kits\' threaded body means that the outside of the strut or shock tubes are threaded like a bolt. This allows the threaded spring perch to be moved up or down to fine-tune the ride height, further optimizing looks and handling. Available for popular Audi, BMW and Volkswagen applications, these coil-overs feature H&R\'s exclusive damper technology. Each shock is specifically engineered to work smoothly with the progressive rate springs.
\n
\nThe Street Performance Coil-Over Kits pictured above represent a sample application. Coil-overs are engineered specifically for each vehicle and may combine different components than those pictured based on the vehicle\'s design.

\n
\n
\n
\nState-of-the-art motorsport technology for proven performance on the streets. The independently adjustable compression and rebound damping allows for custom driving set-ups. The exclusive KW patented system has dual-level valves to provide the adjustment of the rebound damping (comfort) and the compression damping (driving dynamics) in the low-speed range. High-speed settings for driving comfort are preset by KW engineers.
\n• Independently adjustable damping technology (rebound and compression damping)
\n• "inox-line" stainless steel technology*
\n• Individual height adjustment
\n• Infinitely adjustable rebound damping
\n• 14-level adjustable compression damping
\n• Unique, independently functioning damping power adjustment
\n• TV-tested adjustment parameters
\n• High-quality components for long life
\n• Comprehensive documentation for ease of use
\n
\nBased on vehicle specifications, the rebound damping is adjusted by a spindle at the end of the piston rod. Mainly, the traction phase (rebound) controls car body vibrations and influences handling and comfort in the low-speed damping range. By using the traction phase adjustment, the vehicle can be fine tuned to the requirements of the driver. Moreover, driving behavior can be regulated from comfortably rolling to sporty and tense with improved road holding characteristics.
\n
\nThe compression phase adjustment is carried out at the lower end of the shock absorber via KW’s patented multi-purpose valve. The large number of pre-set parameters on this valve allow for a wide range of adjustment for individual use. The unique low-speed compression adjustment distinguishes this technology from any other. In this compression range, the driving behavior of the vehicle is drastically influenced. An increase of the damping power supports the vehicle already during compression and therefore avoids rolling and pitching. The directional stability is significantly improved.

\nA direct replacement for the factory sway bars, the lightweight performance Swaybars improve handling, reduce body roll, and do not negatively impact ride quality or NHV. To improve handling and increase grip from the front of the vehicle, a larger, 35% stiffer than stock swaybar is utilized. CNC bent for a precise fit, the COBB front sway bar exactly replaces the factory swaybar and includes new mounting bushings.
\n
\nCompatible with stock or most aftermarket endlinks
\n
\nIn the rear, an adjustable swaybar is utilized to allow fine tuning of the vehicle’s handling. In both positions, cornering ability is greatly improved. Adjustment may be made in order to increase/decrease the rear swaybars effective stiffness. Compared to the stock swaybar, the COBB adjustable rear sway bar is 50% stiffer in the “soft” setting and 90% stiffer on the “hard” setting. Exactly replaces factory swaybar and includes new mounting bushings.

\r\n\r\n
@RhoadBlock - Looks amazing - thanks for putting it all up.
\r\n
\r\nI\'ve attached the XLS that I originally made to hold the data.
\r\nOn the "Selector" sheet, I made a simple calculator that helps people quickly "ball-park" their dream-system cost for suspension upgrades.
\r\n
\r\nI\'ll update it from time to time in this post with any notes I gather myself.
\r\n
\r\nAnyone that has feedback can direct it to me, also, in case RhoadBlock is overloaded.
\r\n
\r\nIf anyone has trouble with the XLS, lemme know because I sometimes modified it with OpenOrificie.org instead of MS Excel...

\r\n \r\n KSport makes coilovers as well. Believe Swift makes springs too or were planning on it not 100% sure
\n
\nAlso didn\'t see Cobb springs on there, though they are discontinued, they make still be floating around. Would be good for a reference point if anything.\r\n

\r\n
\r\nProduct Description
\r\nKsport Kontrol Pro Fully Adjustable Coilover Kits provide the ultimate in suspension technology for your street or track car. 36 levels of damping adjustment allow you to fine tune the ride to your handling and comfort needs. The damping adjusts compression and rebound simultaneously for ease of adjustment. Pillow ball top mounts in the front and rear on some applications allow you to maintain vehicle manufacturer suspension geometry design. The pillow ball top mounts also allow you a more direct feel for solid driver response. Where available, camber canbe adjusted via the Pillow-ball Top Mounts, which means no additional "Camber Kits" are needed.
\r\n
\r\nMost applications utilize an adjustable lower mount, which means you adjust height without losing suspension travel like some other coilover designs do. With the mounts and most pieces of the coilover being designed for 6061 billet aluminum the kit is lightweight, durable, and rust resistant. The steel shock body is electroplated with zinc to resist rust and the elements. The valving of each set is matched to the springs installed for unmatched ride quality and reliability.
\r\n
\r\nThe Ksport system uses a Monotube design in which the oil and gas are separated within the cylinder. When compared to twin tube designs the Monotube dissipates heat better, allows finer damping adjustments, and requires more expensive design process. Aeration and cavitation are a lot less common in a Monotube design, which results in a better ride.
\r\n
\r\nThe Ksport Kontrol Pro Coilover kit has been designed with professional road racing in mind offering extremely high value and performance.

\r\n \r\n Pretty good list. Couple thoughts:
\n- B4\'s should not be used in the rear, per Bilstein.
\n- There are quite a few applications - mostly coilovers - that are not MS3 specific. Might be good to clarify which are and aren\'t.\r\n

\r\n \r\n Couple of clarifications/comments:
\n
\nBilstein B4s are not the "HDs" that people know as "Heavy Duty" (and in most applications actually utilize a twin-tube damper rather than monotubes like the B6s and B8s).
\n
\nThe B6s are what are known as "HDs".
\n
\nThe B8s are the Bilstein "Sports" (with the shorter shaft).
\n
\n
\nAlso, Raceland Coilvers have no end-user adjustibility in either their compression or rebound circuits. They are simply height-adjustable.\r\n

\r\n \r\n @Nliiitend1: read your thread about breaking down the different coilovers and how they are made essentially... great read, definitely learned a thing or two, and have sense decided to go a different route on what my suspension setup will entail. might cost me a little more $, but overall will be a much more reliable, stable, and tested setup.\r\n

\r\n \r\n Why are the rates on the Progress and Hotchkis rsb so out of whack? Do they use a different kind of measurement? From what I\'ve read, the stock rsb rate is 470lb/in. That means a rate of 2,030lb/in (the stiffest setting on hotchkis rear) would be a 432% increase over the stock rate? Also, does anyone know what compatibility issues there are with sway bars from the Gen1 on the Gen2?\r\n

Anyone find a FSB stiffer than the Hotchkis or Cobb? Are there any FSB\'s that are adjustable? Thanks!

The Racing Beat FSB for the Genpu Mazda 3 2.5 is probably the largest front bar made. I have one laying on the garage floor and will go measure it for you.
\n
\nAlso the Whiteline FSB is 2-way adjustable, it is what I replaced the Racing Beat bar with.\r\n

\r\nNote: Unlike making genone shocks fit with a longer bolt the lower rear shock bushing is the correct width so the stock bolt can be reused (shown). The center of the endlink bracket bolt hole on the front struts is 8.5" from the bottom of the strut body. On the oem struts the bolt hole is 6.5". The H&R use Bilstein dampers/valving. The strut and shock bodies are Stainless steel. The finish of these coilovers is impeccable. No short cuts taken in the machining processes at all. $12each Gound control rear bumpstops also shown.

Thanks for sharing. I responded in another thread but I\'ll post here as well. On the Gen 1 (or at least mine) the endlink bracket is the same height as OEM (from the LCA alignment bracket). Also, H&R recommends retaining the OEM rear jounce bumper to help maintain the collective spring rate. Otherwise, you are left with a 170 lb rear spring instead of ~250-290 lbs.
\n
\nAlso, to add to Bob\'s comment, total length of the front endlinks should not exceed 1.25" over OEM. Otherwise you can risk contact with the LCA. Some CO\'s like H&R and BC do not factor in the initial drop.\r\n

\r\n \r\n @Nliiitend1 I\'m trying to decide between the HR CO\'s anda HR/KOni yellow set up. When I do the setup I plan to also, if not shortly after do a 17x9 +44 255/40 star specs combo and I want to ensure I have enough stiffness to cover body roll and rebound to not rub (fender rolling of course) the only thing pushing me away from the Ht CO\'s is no dampening, but I know it will be a little stiffer in rebound area.. What are your thoughts?

Don\'t do it. Sell ms3, get a regular 3. Then ruin it. Get pissed off, sell it, buy a Civic.\r\n

\r\n \r\n Some info on lowering your car with stock/stock style struts.
\n
\nLowering your car will change the position where the FSB endlink hole is, so you will need to have longer front endlinks. If you don\'t compensate for your drop, your front sway bar may be pulled up, resulting in it slapping the bottom of your car, giving you a NASTY clunk.
\n
\nIf you have coilovers, the drop is taken into consideration, and the position in which the endlink bolts into the strut moves down. If you have the car higher than the recommended settings, your endlinks will be too long, and you will need shorter ones.
\n
\nA formula i\'ve seen floating around on the forum is:
\n
\n
\r\n\r\n \r\n \r\n \r\n \r\n
\r\n \r\n New front endlink length = [OEM length] + [change in ride height] - [change in strut endlink mount]\r\n \r\n
\r\n\r\n
Where your change in ride height (drop) is a positive integer.
\n
\nAlso, with adjustable endlinks, you can only lengthen them so much, as stated by @Design,
\n
\n
\r\n\r\n \r\n \r\n \r\n \r\n
\r\n \r\n

\r\n \r\n
\r\n\r\n
Hope this helps anyone clear up any endlink confusion!\r\n

Default The Official MS3 Suspension Thread

Here is a comprehensive list of all suspension systems and components available for the MS3.

SPRINGS

AutoExe Low Down Spring
Drop: 1.2" front, 1.2" rear | Part Number: MBA700 | ~$500

Straight from Japan and designed for the Mazdaspeed "Axela"!
The roll is placed under control by the spring rate intensified within the range that has less impact on a ride quality, so that the vehicle height can be brought down by approx. 30 mm. For the riding taste, the car stability is improved by bringing its center of gravity down, which provides a desired tendency to the “person who enjoys driving.” Moreover, the clearance of tire house becomes reduced, which makes the whole car look low. As a result, a dynamic feeling is provided to the styling.

The CorkSport Advantage:

• Crafted from high tensile strength spring steel for long lasting quality and performance
• OEM finish to ensure lasting durability and rust protection

Eibach Pro-Kit
Drop: 0.8" front, 0.7" rear | Part Number: 5549.140 | ~$205

The Eibach Pro-Kit lowering spring set improves your vehicle's looks and performance. Pro-Kit springs lower the vehicle's center of gravity, reducing body roll in the turns, dive under braking, squat during acceleration and give the car a more solid secure feel at all times. Pro-Kit Springs also minimize the ugly fender gap that makes a car look "lifted." Eibach Pro-Kit Springs..." The look that performs."

Eibach Sport Line
Drop: ~2.0" front, ~2.0" rear | Part Number: 4.4955 | ~$240

Eibach Sportline is the extreme-performance spring set created for the extreme enthusiast - the one who craves a race-car attitude for maximum street performance - with the lowest possible drop, but with the exceptional ride quality you expect from Eibach.

Engineered with the same care as our Pro-Kit springs, Eibach Sportline springs achieve legendary handling by aggressively lowering your car’s center of gravity, using our precision engineered progressive spring rates.

By radically lowering your car’s center of gravity, our Sportline springs dramatically reduce squat during acceleration, body roll in corners and nose-dive under braking. By using our proprietary, progressive spring design, our Sportline springs provide the ultimate balance between high performance, extreme lowering and comfortable ride quality. When combined with today’s wild 18, 19 or 20 wheels and tires, the result is a car that handles just as white-hot as it looks.

The most popular spring in H&R's line-up, Sport Springs will lower your vehicle an average of 1.5 - 2 inches (depending upon the make and model of your vehicle) for a lower center of gravity, improved handling and a more aggressive appearance. Sport springs feature more control than that of the OE Sport spring, but is still comfortable for daily use. Sport springs are an excellent choice for street and occasional track use.
