Default Thanks Stratified!

I just wanted to say thanks for the awesome work and quick turn around time. I recently order an OTS+ tune from Stratified and accidentally left out my fuel pump on my mod list. Generally they make you buy another tune but they took care of me and sent me the correct tune (within an hour) at no charge. All in all it was $40 well spent and I wouldn't have minded having to pay for the revised tune because it was worth it. Can't wait to do a full tune!

So much good feedback from Stratified!

Lex, did you ever tune a CX-7 with a turbo upgrade?

I have a hard time getting my tune were I want with the MS6 K04 ive got in the CX-7 (spoolup), guess Id be better off going with a professional tuner with a big turbo and all the hardware...

The ignition timing tables are wicked on the CX-7 : theres the ''normal table'', ''transition table'', lots of tables with ''unknow'' function...

FYI, here is my build thread : Big turbo build CX-7 :P

Have tuned a few CX7s. The good thing is that there is a good amount of resemblance to the MazdaSpeed 3/6 in the control system. Are you tuning it yourself? Did you start from the OEM tune?

Either is fine. Just so you know there is no magic number. You have to blend timing advance with boost and fuel to reach the best mixture and this can differ from one car or setup to another. Keep asking here if you'd like.

I have so many questions...dont know to start

My biggest concern is the timing in the spoolup zone (particularly the spoolup when lauching from a stop), so I will—start with this...

When you retard timing in the spoolup zone (to improve spoolup)on the OEM tables, do you smooth out (horizontal interpolation) the timing in the nearby cells?

Can the change in timing by abrupt...example : have positive timing values up to the spoolup zone (to increase torque), then the timing drop abruptly to accelerate spoolup?

I would not focus on the low RPM timing zone but rather look at 3.5k and above. The OEM tables going down in the negative regions are not bad in that area.

Lex,

I dont want to change the very low rpm zone timing, but rather the timing in the spoolup zone

Look at the attached Excel file for a comparaison between my CX-7 and a buddy MS6 spoolup with the same turbo (you will see that spoolup is not the same and the major difference is the ignition timing)

As a reference, when I changed the stock CX-7 turbo and downpipe (same time) for the MS6 turbo and a catless 3'' downpipe+testpipe, the spoolup went from 2500rpm to 3700rpm with the Versatuner OTS tune

VVT alterations shaved 300rpm on spoolup (3700rpm to 3400rpm)

AS for the timing advance in the pre-spool zone, I was asking to eliminate the plateau in the 2000rpm zone (see attached graph...the plateau is highlighted in blue)
