Default HTP 3.5 full intake installed

So after about 2 hours I finally got the 3.5 inch full intake installed.
The quality is great as well as the price.

As far as installation goes it was pretty straight forward. I highly recommend picking up @HTP; small battery tray and installing it all at the same time. I did not do this and it is a tight fit.

One recommendation I have is it get an angled fitting for the small house as well I am not sure what this goes to off the top of my head. Also so clamps for the valve cover vent hose would be nice. The vc vent hose was a bit to long cut it like three times but that's not a bad thing per say.

I will update this later with power and airflow gains once I get the maf dialed in. As far as what I did to get the car started I just multiplied both maf cal tables by 1.66. It stuttered for about a minute initially but then ran smooth

If it fits, it's better than some other 3.5" intakes

It's about the same as the JBR.

It does fit well my battery box is a bit distorted though won't snap back together just right but I believe that is because of my positive wire not being in just right.

It makes your car so much louder though. I no reason to run vta with this thing stock bpv sounds like a bov with it

yeah.. fitment looks a lot better.. the filter end of the pipe is angled better (a lot further from the bpv.) and the intake is not pushing against the tray nearly as much.. My battery tray is way more distorted than that, and I couldn't even use all 3 bolts to the tray.I struggled for 2 days to get the fitment the way I would like but still not happy... Now I will need to make the holes in the battery tray bigger and slide the box some to clear the pipe better...At the end, I'm sure I can make it work... Just sucks how much work it needs to be done for it.

The only really hard part I had with the whole install was getting the intake by that stupid coolant line, another TIP for people installing something like this might be to grease that pipe up a bit with some oil or something, it grabs the intake pretty good, had to try and get my giant ass hands below the intake to push that hose down while pushing the intake onto the coupler.

I would still say using @HTP; battery tray would give you the best fitment possible

What are you comparing the sound to? I'm replacing my corksport with the JBR and my inner ricer wonders if I'll lose any noise

Very nice. @HTP; is there any discount if we buy this intake and your battery box at the same time? Like a combo package.

Yes! When we officially release these and the 4" intakes shortly, we will have a discounted package option available with the battery trays for sure!

Well i got some preliminary results in.
Obviously my tune needs some work still. The larger intake has caused me to start overboosting again, i had the majority of the worked out before i put the intake on.
My maf cal is still way off so dont be alarmed by the AFR's it was a cool enough day I felt i could do a couple woot pulls without getting in trouble.

Comparing the two attached logs i picked up 25 HP and 9 torque. I am curious to see how much of that is because of the over boosting i have at the moment, but thought i would post this up anyway. Also these are on different roads on different days so its hard to tell. The gain could also be from lower BATS.

@Deldran the fact that it's a 1 piece thing, does it cause any troubles with the engine movement? That's my only concern...

What exactly do you mean. I pretty much have this dialed in now and I drive it like I stole it. No issues at all

@Deldran Well with the engine movement....

If you were to have a TIP in silicone + an elbow along with the maf housing, the silicone could "absorb" some of the movement. And if you had an aluminum TIP + a silicone elbow that connects to the maf housing, once again, the silicone could absorb a portion of the movement since silicone is flexible

Now since it's a one piece all the way, the only part that could absorb some of the engine movement is the coupling to the turbo; therefore **it could** create tension to it and it would be easier to disconnect from it.

Sorry if my explanation sucks, english isn't my native language.... Hope you get my point / question anyway!

The intake moves with the engine and it looks like it's only attached at the turbo so there shouldn't be a problem. I think you're describing an issue where the filter end of the intake is also attached to the chassis.

Its attached to the engine, it moves with the engine, its not attached to the body in any way so there is not need to worry about energy absorbtion... and even if it was, that just means you need to drop some cash on mounts.

Yeah that's what I was thinking too; just that someone on another forum pointed this out... and I do have a 2.5 TIP from HTP and it is connected onto the engine about halfway with the inlet bracket. So the one piece intake system should be the same....

I used to have a CAI on my old celica 6th gen and it was only "secured" by the coupler that connects to the TB. It was always moving and disconnecting... 'had to ty-wrap tuning style that shit

In the pics on HTPs site, the 3" intakes have a bracket, but from what I've seen the 3.5 s don't. I'd prefer a mounting point in addition to the turbo. It seems like a lot to ask a single coupler to support the whole length of the intake. I understand the decision to leave the bracket off, though, given that the larger intakes will often be used on BT setups where things don't quite line up.

you can always fit it and then have a muffler shop tack on a strip of metal for you to use as a bracket

If one silicone coupler can hold over 30psi, I think you'll be fine with it supporting a lb or two.

Yeah, that's an option. I'm sure it's fine without the bracket, and I wouldn't want to dick up the finish.

I am sure @HTP; will chime in on that but with out tight my 3.5 is I highly doubt it. Look up a few post the pick of my intake installed I don't think there is another .5 inches of room to be had

Installed a JBR 3.5" onto a local Nator members car and it was rubbing his battery box with the ECU relocated. Its a tight fit.

How did you guys get around the coolant line in front of turbo? Over or under? Did you push it back any off the connection at the block? Or left it be? I noticed I can get it to slide off nearly 1/4" for a bit of added room.

That heater core line is a pain in the ass. Keep it under the intake. Some people slide the hose back on the fitting, some setups its not a problem and they leave it alone. On our test cars I install a Gates 28604 ($2.99) coolant hose connector and a few inches of 5/8" hose to give the proper clearance.

Thanks, I was just coming in here to edit post and say I got it. It actually fits better than I thought it would. The way you mentioned would make it even better. But seems to be ok without it. I'll post up some pics in another thread when I have it all buttoned up.

@Deldran; Any word on the gains from the 3.5"? Do you have any issues with intake movement, I ask because I noticed the 3.0" has a bracket and the 3."5 does not.
@HTP; Is there a way we can get the bracket for the 3.5" as an option?

Imo, the bpv hose does a good job of holding the intake "up". Not much movement between it and the valve cover breather hose.

Just contact HTP and ask about the bracket, they welded one on for me.
