If you think the features are the same, you really need to read more; I'm fairly certain there's a thread on this very subject, actually.

Also, the single biggest reason for switching is this very thread. Read through it, and if you still don't get it I'll get my bigass spoon out just for you.

You kind of already can if you're very light on the clutch and have FFS and Megaspool enabled.

Sure. I'd be happy to explain.

Keep in mind that I transferred from an 18 year old dead platform with minimal vendors and tuning solutions. If you wanted to make any real power on that dead platform, you had to go full standalone and wire in a harness from scratch. I spent 4 years tuning with MegaSquirt 1 V3 and MegaSquirt 2 V3. In my honest opinion, this is the closest that you can get to a full standalone setup without actually hacking up any of the wires or removing the ECU.

Pro's:

-- VersaTune still supports the MazdaSpeed platform (HUGE BONUS). For those of you whom are following the bigger injectors thread, they're already waiting for the green light that way they can write code for an injector scale. Good luck trying to get COBB to do anything for us.

-- Accessport only logs 6 options at a time. I can easily log 12 at a time in VersaTuner.

-- VersaTune's customer service is top notch. Plus, they're active in our forums and post a lot of valuable information for us to learn from.

-- It flashes in a minute. That's half the amount of time you'll have to wait in comparison to an Accessport. Who knows, maybe they'll release a faster flashing process with their future updates.

-- For those of you whom have swapped your GPS with a physical tablet, you can install VersaTune on it and tune from the tablet via Bluetooth or a hardwired USB cable.

-- The Option to Download Multiple Tunes and then see which data points have been changed in comparison to yours makes life easier. For those of you whom are tuning your own rides, this will help when creating an OTS Base Tune.

-- You can rev to 8K instead of 7K. This means that you can hit 60mph in 2nd gear if you have the airflow/turbo/mods for it, or if you wanna be cool. Those of us with bigger turbos or built engines will benefit from this. 60mph in 2nd gear happens at about 7200rpms with stock tires.

-- You don't have to look at some small little screen to make adjustments. Seriously. There's throwaway phones with better resolution and larger screens than an Accessport.

-- Anti-Lag is pretty awesome. It's like having a 2-Step.

-- It's more convenient overall. Every tuning point has a descriptor, and when datalogging, there are a lot of preset options for you to select. For example, if you want to datalog MAF Values, then you just click a pull down tab and everything you need is there. You can also see an actual 3D Graph of your datapoints so you can adjust the highs and lows.

-- The Accessport will always be limited to its hardware. VersaTuner is software only, which means it can be migrated to computers/laptops with faster processors and it won't ever be obsolete. There's 3 versions of the Accessport. How many of you have bought more than 1 Accessport for basically the same software? VersaTuner updates the software for free. 1 Purchase and you're done. That's it.

-- The migration from Accessport to Versatuner is also pretty easy. There's already a How-To thread about seamlessly migrating your custom tunes over to VersaTuner.

-- VersaTuner is also cheaper. You can have everything for 550, or you can have an Accessport V3 for 650 plus tax. The software itself is only 400, and you guys will be a part of a group buy, so you'll be getting it even cheaper than what I paid for it.

Is that like brake boosting where it kinda works or works sometimes when done just right.... I've only brake boosted a few times... I know I got it right at least 2 out of 5 tries but right after those 5 tries my brakes were making a screaching noise. And i javent had a problem with the brake since buying car in November... so since its clearly bad on the brakes. I was looking into other options for basically rolling anti-lag or brake boosting without going thru brakes lol... so with that in mind i was more interested in the push botton, no fuss rolling anti-lag....

But just so I know what u mean can u explain... I currently don't have VT but am making the decision on VT or AP and everyone keeps saying there's a huge difference but unless I haven't found a specific page that explains the differences then l... I go to both sites and compare, and Come up with the ap data logs at a faster rate, and is more openly accepted by local shops. And this fourm. And VT takes care of shift shutter. VT let's u tune upto 8000rpm or 4.0 bit I'm not looking to do the whole engine rebuild... it's looking like 10k built block(1000hp capable) $6300 and a head job for another 2k and I'd still need a big turbo to set it off right... not including 5th port fueling... yeah over the top for me lol but looking to push this motor to its factory internal limits.. I've read that's around 400whp max then it's tapped out. Correct me if I'm wrong... that's why I'm on this one us because I see new features in the making for VT... I'm leaning towards VT for sure tho... it's the lack of local support for tuning or evan etuning that's gorlt me on the fence now... thanks for ur assistance! :-) and any advice is greatly appreciated! !!!

What it does is spools up big turbos by retarding the ignition timing and keeping the exhaust valves open that way the air heats up, gets sent out the exhaust, the hot air expands, and spools the turbo up super quickly. Basically, you leave the line at full boost.

Also, turbos like the GTX3071, EFR 7163, Borg Warner S252 Billet BatMoWheel, Precision 6262, ect are still making power past 7 Grand.

Either way, if you're going big turbo, you'll want VersaTuner.

Think of it like buying Fuel Pump Internals. Just do it and never have to worry about it ever again.

Also, Steve and Lex are very capable etuners. They have a lot of experience and they know what they're doing. If you're not for the eTuning option, the learning curve for VersaTuner isn't very high. It's easier to navigate than Accessport.

Once you buy it, you'll wonder why you didn't make the swap sooner.

Nothing like brake boosting. There's a switch attached to the clutch pedal, which activates when depressed. I think it's mostly used for disabling the cruise control and starting the car; activating this switch via pushing the clutch in will activate the FFS settings including ignition retard (for fireballs and spool).

Right now it has to be set for whichever gear and speed you want to do this in, but I think if this switch can be adjusted to activate sooner (while the clutch is still fully engaged) and VT can be adjusted to hold that RPM it will be a winner.

Oh so there is a few E-tuners for the VT sweet them it's a done deal tmy concern was if I don't get it and started f'ing it up can someone help and get it back on track lol... and so with FFS and megaspool u still can't build boost while moving tho right?? Or did I get lost.... I have a buddy at work just got the challenger the base model.. and when we line up at 40mph - 60mph - 80mph he pulls on me pretty good... but when I brake boosted those few times I stayed with him until I had to shift (5800 rpm) and the he pulls away like before. . Now I k ow he's got like 100 more hp but it peaks my interest that I stayed with him until shift when brake boosted correctly.... so goal to whoop a challengers ass he's stock... anyway that's why the request for Rolling Anti-lag really peaked my interest!!! It seems like ur talking more about launch control from a stop... I like a push botton to build boost while going any speed and let go and ENJOY :-)

So has anyone done this yet? Or is this where it's held up so far?

Thanks again for the helpful info

And on that note I believe it's already been mentioned. But I would LOVE some sort of live graphing function similar to HP Tuners' histograms.

It should be possible. It is a lot of work to implement. I want to do it. It all takes time to implement.

Feature request:
Ability to copy axis descriptor values (RPM, Load, etc) for pasting into spreadsheets, etc.

Even having to do it separate would be nice, or maybe a button that dumps the entire table with axis descriptors to clipboard or text file would be nice.

Would it be hard to incorporate a gauge screen for monitoring parameters? I don't mind just using the monitor how it is but the numbers are on the small side and I'd rather not get distracted trying to look at the smaller numbers. I was thinking something pretty basic similar to what torque has:

Can you not just use the new Boost PID? I could have sworn that PID covers all the various sensors now.

Boost Pressure only works up to 22.5 psi. We noticed that when running 29psi lol. Changed to 3.5 bar pid and saw 30+ after additional tuning

Yeah stock sensor, but 3 bar or 3.5 bar will net you more than the stock 22.5 PSI

Not when logging the "Boost Pressure" parameter.. doesn't matter what MAP sensor you have, it's maxed at 22.5. Probably a bug so lets hope it gets fixed

It's not a bug, it's because the ECU uses 1bit value from pressure, meaning maxed at 255 and since it's using kPa for pressure, 255kPa is the max that will be directly output from the ECU.

With that said, you can run an equation directly using the MapV variable the ECU puts out, and using your map sensor scalars, convert to actual boost pressure in Psi.

Fixed for you; 1 bit is either 0 or 1.

That is correct, MAP PID is 1 byte, so it maxes out at 255 kPa. Boost PID is based on MAP and BARO pressure, so it has the same limitation. We have additional PIDs for aftermarket MAP sensors, they are based on MAP volts and have the scaling constants hardcoded. This is an inconvenience for all those who want to use the boost PID with aftermarket sensors. We have plans to fix that by reading the scalars from the ROM before logging.

@Steve@VersaTune; is it possible to extended the load and rpm axis for the ignition timing on the gen2 CX-7 platform (need so for the big turbo tuning)

Gen1 MS3 and MS6 only. It's on the to do list for Gen2. It's a big project.

Logs capturing name/revision of the tune would be helpful.

Also, I reconsidered the auto feature we discussed on Saturday. It would, indeed, be pretty awesome.

Is there a feature to turn off the A/C compressor at WOT? Although, now that I think of it, that might be controlled by an entirely separate system.

Suggestion for FFS, instead of having a single set point for rpm, have the next rpm calculated based on gear ratio change (current gear vs next gear). That way it doesn't matter at what rpm you shift at, the engine will be right where you need it for the next gear. Which should also reduce clutch wear and tear.
Heck, why not do rev matching for downshifting? Under hard braking, ecu blips the throttle for the next gear.

I'm new to VT, so I might be sounding rediculously stupid regarding the capabilities of the software.

Thanks. Good to know, but this was answered almost 5 hours ago.

I no longer have an excuse why I barely lost an impromptu "race". Lol.

This too is on my to-do list. I recently learned a lot about auto blip and rev matching from my work with an RX-8 SCCA team.
