I'm so in for an Android app. Gives me an excuse to buy a tablet and run MHD on my 135i too lol.

So there is specific fuel gravity scalars already?

What about real time graphing (historgrams) for monitoring/logging?

Yes, and a built in calculator for it too (it's different from AP).

I was reading around a bit. So if you change the FSG you don't have to change the MAF curve but you do have to change your load targets?

There is no reason to run anything but accurate maf scaling and load targets with e85 tuning. Modifying the FSG value based on the e85 calculator output compensates for the e85 specific gravity and afr difference.

So it's as simple as changing the FSG and then tuning as I normally would?

edit Correction: You should change AFR targets a bit to compensate for the different ideal max load AFRs.

-- Live Tuning/Auto Tune (It would be great to be able to make real time changes on the fly. Instead of flashing the entire tune, you can just flash a spark revision without wiping out STFT and/or LTFT data. Or, is it possible to do a quick flash which will only update the cells of the tune which has been revised, or must the entire tune be reflashed each time?)

-- Conditional Statements for Automatic Data-logging (If rpm is above 2500rpm, and load is above 1.025, then datalog the requested parameters until x happens, the load drops below a certain point, or the timer reaches x amount of seconds.)

-- It would be nice if you could read and enter values in kpa instead of load, or 14.68 instead of 1 lambda.

-- It would be more convenient if you could just select your datalog and then export it to excel instead of having to load it just to click the button.

-- It would be great if you could incorporate an Undo button that way if you screw up, you can press the undo button and it'll go back to the last value that you had. It would be different from the restore button which goes back to the default values of the tune.

-- It would be awesome if you could reconfigure the datalogging section to have different skins (i.e. gauges, bars, ect) which move around in real time.

I apologize if anything that I've suggested would be unrealistic. I spent many years tuning from scratch via MegaSquirt on a forgotten platform without any sort of help from vendors.

I think the only thing unrealistic would be the partial flash; I'm probably wrong on this but I think the ECU uses a hash of some sort when powering up to make sure it isn't corrupt before running, which means any changes would alter the match to the hash and thus make it not viable if that makes sense.

Makes perfect sense, Enki. I didn't think about the possibility of the ECU having a checksum for error detection.

Thank you.

Edit: I was originally under the impression that the ECU's RAM could be rewritten and specific data could be copied over from there.

Meh, I'll leave it to the pros.

Live tuning/Auto-Tune would be a Game Changer for sure.

You know what feature I want to see- A bounty program on AccessPorts...

I'd switch over in a heartbeat if the cost was easier to deal with. I'd send you my AP hardware if you gave me a discount for making the transition.

Stupid, I know- your customer service and attention to the platform is beyond excellent. Your product is great. The results speak for themselves.

For me, and I suspect many others, the only thing preventing making the jump is simply financial...

If this is the case, no reason VT couldn't recalculate the hash (it would have to already have the code to do so) and write 1) the table or specific changes and then 2) the new hash.

Unless it's encrytped WITH the hash. Then you have to reflash the entire thing anyways.

Fair enough. I'm too lazy to go figure out what's actually happening, but you have a point.

My biggest gripe here lately is the data logging text. I'm using an HP stream most of the time but even on my Lenovo Yoga Pro 3 the min and max values are so small and thin it's hard for my old eyes to read. I'd like to see these bold and all of them (even the current data numbers) just a touch bigger or more predominant.

Thank you for the great ideas, some of them are already on our to-do list.

As for live tuning, this is problematic, because the flash memory of the ECU can only be erased in sectors and those sectors are quite big (up to 256 KB, depending on MCU). So you would still have to reflash a significant portion of the ROM. Add the overhead of setting up the communications and putting the ECU into reflash mode and the gains are not that big. Another problem is that Mazda OEM reflash protocols do not allow specifying the memory area to be erased and always erase everything. So implementing something like that would require significant effort from our side and a lot of custom code in the ECU.
The way they do it when calibrating the ECU in the test cell - they have special development ECUs with lots of RAM and keep all the table data in RAM. That way it can be altered in near real time. Production ECUs, on the other hand, have very small RAM sizes and you could barely fit more than a couple of tables in the free space there.

What concerns measurement units, there is no direct conversion between kPa (manifold pressure) and engine load. Load is calculated as the actual air mass per intake stroke divided by maximum air mass per intake stroke at WOT at 100% volumetric efficiency. Relationship between air mass and pressure depends on many factors.

AFRs instead of lambda are possible, we'll probably add that option in the future, but with the possibility to customize your stoich AFR (some people run ethanol blends that have different stoich AFR).

Nope, not unless you can write good enough code to do all the stock functions on the can bus.

Lol, there would be a group buy a month after I paid full price for the software & cable.

No worries. It's worth every penny. Very happy that I bought VersaTune over Accessport ATR

On a side note, do you guys have recommendation for a lower profile cable for datalogging? I have big feet [Size 12.5], so when I datalog while driving, I hit the cable when I step on the brakes. It's not a big deal, but half an inch would be great!

You can get an extension cable on ebay for a few bucks. 90* angle cables too. You can also log with any ELM327 bluetooth just at a lower pid rate.

If you have a 6 you can just move the OBDII port to the right and zip tie it there and run the cable along the center console to the logging device

I pulled the bottom part of my dash out and cut a hole in the back where the plug is, ran the USB cable through there and a hole in the gauge cluster shroud with a grommet. I also use a 90 degree USB adapter to keep it all low profile, as the tablet mounts to my dash as well.

Minor issue:

For the data log naming convention, can you change it to a 24 hour format that uses a yyyy_mm_dd_hh_min_sec convention? When you export them, the 12-hour format doesn't arrange in chronological order when you shift from 12 o'clock logs to 1 o'clock logs.

I'm almost ready to make the jump, the biggest thing holding me back right now is being too preemptive and missing a GB. Is that still a possibility?

GB is always an option. We have a standing GB policy 5-9 buyers = $50 off, 10+ = $100 off.

Where should this group buy be posted? Is there a GB forum?

@Steve@VersaTune; I've got 2 vehicles. If I buy 2 licenses and 1 cable, is that 1 count towards GB or 2?

Also, I think as a Vendor, you can post GB/GI threads in your own forum. @InkedInspector; @SofaKingAwesome; - what's the rule for vendor-sponsored GBs?

Each license counts with or without a cable.

Group buy rules for Vendors

1) Group buy shall have a start date and end date.
2) A list of members will be shown in the GB thread and updated accordingly by the organizer of the GB.
3) Price of the item WILL be posted in the GB post.
4) Organizer of the Group Buy will be responsible for keeping the members up to date.
5) The post of the GB will contain descriptive information pertaining to the sale of that item.

I would suggest that the vendor posts the Group Buy in their section, so as to allow them access to modify thread/posts as needed.

Steve, PM me if you have any questions.

No worries. It's worth every penny. Very happy that I bought VersaTune over Accessport ATR

On a side note, do you guys have recommendation for a lower profile cable for datalogging? I have big feet [Size 12.5], so when I datalog while driving, I hit the cable when I step on the brakes. It's not a big deal, but half an inch would be great!
may i ask why you say you are "very happy" about VT over AP ATR? i am curious what hte differences are between the two, besides that one is pc based and the other a standalone gadget... the best I can come up with from searching the forums is that VT is specifically for the mazdaspeed platform, but in terms of features I can't tell a lick of difference and from where i stand it seems to be a matter of preferance? since mazda oriented or not if the features are the same, like many others it would be hard to justify a switch, but if there is enough of a diff to be "very happy" about maybe I would switch if I knew what this "delta of difference in ability" actually was.

adnoird app sounds nice tho(AP v3 should of been an andoird app imho, instead of a 700 smartphone gimped down into being an ap with a bigger screen, which is still too damn small imho to be more useful than my DH was, and my plx kiwi2 is)
