Does this piece of card stock sound familiar to anyone?
Yeah, when I bought my 2012 in March it came with one of those option cards. They told me at the time of purchase to look it over and decide what personalizations i wanted done. But because it was after service hrs. by the time we got done with all the paperwork b.s. and they had to detail my car 3 time cause they kept leaving swirl marks on it, the service dept. was closed. The salesman told me to just bring the card back with me when I came in for my first oil change or if I happened to be in the neighborhood before that and they'd make the changes. I "happened to be in the neighborhood" a few weeks later, but didnt have the card with me. The salesman that sold me the car grabbed me one from his office and got me hooked up. They said any future changes I would want to make would cost $115. I was kinda pissed cause you we're supposed to be able to get the sensitivity of the auto-headlights adjusted and they told me that's not something that can be changed on the 2012 model anymore. But anyway, they should have given you the "personalization adjustment card" with all your new car paperwork stuff on the day you purchased.
Hope everything works out.

Why is there a "secret" option to make the interior dome light stay on temporarily after shut down when there's a button with 3 options (this being one of them) right on the dome light itself? Seems kind of dumb and redundant.

Because the switch just turns the light on when the door is open and this option turns the light on right when you turn the car off and take the key out, they are two different events / triggers? What is hard to understand about that?

Mine has a setting for a timed delay so that when you walk away the light is still on for a bit then turns off. Is the "secret" setting for something else? Did I misread something?

How are these options changed in the computer? Through the OBD2 port? Is this something that can be done with a Bluetooth obd2 single and my smartphone?

Though they are changed through the OBD2 port, I have been told that these options are stored in the BCM. Currently, there is no known way to make the changes without going to the dealership.

Hey guys,

I have a 2012 Mazda 3 i GT and came across this post so I decided to register and reply. I took my car to a local dealer yesterday for a tire rotation and also wanted them to turn on Smart Turn. I printed out a scanned card I found online but they would not accept it. I was told Mazda stopped doing the free personalization options and they wanted to charge me $45 to get it done. That's ridiculous. I asked another dealer about it and they want $87 plus tax. I am upset! My car is only 7 months old and I'm only at 51XX miles. Does anyone know what program they use to do this? Maybe there is a way to change it with one of those ODBII dongles.

Did you buy it new from that dealer? I would go to the dealer you purchased it from and see if they'll do it for free (inform them you didn't know there were personalization features).

I got mine done for free, however I got it done two weeks after I purchased it.

#1 , no you cannot do this yourself using any at home tuner currently available for either the base or speed 3.

#2 , even going to the dealer you bought it from doesn't always work, mine wanted like $160 2 months after I bought the car when I came in for the first oil change. So fuck them.

It's ridiculous. I don't get why a feature like Smart Turn is off by default!

EDIT: I found a dealer that is willing to do it for $28 + tax. I might take it there. That seems a little more reasonable than $45 or $87, which the two other dealers quoted me.

it would be awesome if Mazda would make a smartphone app for their cars. Then all these settings could be changed whenever we want, while they are at it they could make an onstar like system also.

It would be even better if they included all these options under the settings menu. They put turn signal volume in there. Why not all of these.

Asked the service manager about this, he looked at me like I was retarded. He then took the time to ask one of his techs about it, and he knew all about it.

Service manager wanted to charge me $100 to change the smart signal on. He claimed "You want to change the factory specs, there is a charge for that."

Went to speak with my salesman, he got it done for me for free.

Good thing. They put it in there saying it can be changed. They sent me something in the mail stating the options. I think it's ridiculous they are trying to charge everyone

My salesman gave me some big long story about how up until 11' they offered these things to be changed, and all of a sudden they just stopped offering it for new buyers. No longer got those papers from Mazda, and just assumed it wasn't allowed anymore.

But, he also mentioned how some educated customers will come in demanding this be done and he can get the techs to go ahead if it was within a month of buying the car.

I just took the brochure I got in the mail just in case but didn't need it. My salesman was awesome and when I can in to tell him I wanted it changed. He cracked up and said we just did one and proceeded to go show me how they worked on the other customers car. Said I'm the second one he has ever heard of asking for them. The service guy didn't seem thrilled about it but didn't give me a hassle.

Oh well, Mazda provides options we should be able to get for free atleast once.

It's the dealerships that hate having to do something with no profit.

If you count where they drive the car into the service bays and do the work then pull the car out itd maybe take 30 mins.. But most likely they wont know what they are doing and it will take an hour of them going back and forth saying .. this cant be done .. but it can .. reset and start over. When i went with @kabobulate they had to do my car twice because they said it couldnt be done. So the hour may be realistic but thats not because it actually takes that long .. its because itll take the techs that long to figure out wtf they are doing.

I think its funny how when i asked the service depot the guy was like no no no these options are not avalible on your car you have to have the tech package.. and i say i do have the tech package.. then he says hold on comes back a few min later and tells me that its not avalible for the 2010 model only 2011 i asked him why that paper was in my car..he then goes and grabs the one of the techs and the tech starts telling me that my "mazda3" was the low end model i had to correct this guy and tell him its a speed.... i laughed at them and left.. i cant believe these people

Having Mazda West do my car on Monday. Only feature I think I'm interested in is the smart turn. My VW had that feature and I really liked it. Let me ask you guys this. With my VW I was able to turn off the seat belt chimes, use the key fob to open and close windows and have the fogs on with parking lights. Since I'm new to Mazda I was hoping someone could help me get an answer to those options I listed above. As far as fogs, I've seen threads about splitting into other wires but I'm not doing that. Thanks in advance.

Look at the back of your manual. The personalization options are listed there.

i was looking at an Audi S4 and while doing some research came across a thread stating all the 'hidden' codes that are not published but can be done.
Maybe some Mazda tech wizkid will figure out some hidden ones like the Audi guys.

Although, you can buy a scan tool that plugs into car and your computer which allows one to add/delete many options on the Audi's.

Thanks for the tips from this thread OP.

Have anyone brought in their car to the dealer to do that with the AP on? on a different map than OEM? Would that matter if it's not on the OEM map when they update the settings being that they have to hook it up to one of their tools/software? I'm not worried about anyone driving the car at the dealer to tell me i did something to the ECU. I'm wondering if they can give you shit or if they are able to detect the AP ECU Flash when they are updating to the desired personalisation options.

Remove ap then go in. They won't care as long as they don't see it.

Yep be sure to let us know. What pisses me off the most is that the cx 5 with tech that has the same nav screen has the personalization options available for user to change but the 13 speed 3 with tech is hidden or not available for end user. I was hoping with the new nav screen the tab for personalization would be present. If you look at your tech 13 quick reference guide it says incorrectly that its available.

i wondered about that. i was over at the dealership today to give them the full amount cash for the car and i ran into the salesman. i asked him if the tech was able to do what the cx5 could do. He said yes.
i doubt he knows, unless the Canadian version does offer it?
Good news is my car arrived off the truck this a.m. i will have them do a few things and grab it on the 13th.
i did find the 2013 manual and printed off the 4 pages of options with all my choices(lots of personalization settings) and they were dumbfounded that it had all those choices.

I'm reporting back regarding the personalization options. So I called the dealer this morning to take my car in to get the smart turn feature turned on and this is what I got....First I spoke to service which said I had to speak to sales because they said it had to be approves, I had already mentioned that I just bought the car and that I received the personalization card and I would like to get that done. So I spoke to some other sales person (who asked me if I had business to speak about or not) because my sales man was either busy or not there (they couldn't even tell me that) and they said that service will advise me on what needs to be done...WTF...
The service person I spoke to had no idea what I was talking about and he said that "oh, they may have to flash your computer". With that being said, I no longer want any personalization done to my car from that dealer since they don't know shit about what they should be doing. I just don't feel comfortable with me being a test subject for them to try it and see if it works. What a bunch of shit... Even for free I'm afraid that they will fuck something up with my car. I'm just going to live with my normal turn signal knowing that I'm the only person who did anything to my ECU because I really don't trust these fucking people at the dealer...what a crock of shit......

Thanks to everyone who gave the heads up regarding this matter. Hopefully soon someone will find a way or a solution other than the dealer for us to do that shit on our own, I can wait until then....

If you have any problems, just tell them to call up Mazda. They will explain it to the dumbfuck mechanics. I had to do this as well.

Yeah, it's sad they have these people with no training on their own products. I will schedule an appointment next time I have a chance and hopefully have my sales person talk to someone who knows and if not to call Mazda ....it's just such a hassle for something that is the consumers should be able to do, I'm just afraid they will fuck something up and then they tell me my ECU has an issue or some dumb shit. Thanks for the quick response though

I took my car in WITH the AP. I guess I just got lucky. The service manager I usually see when I go to the dealership is a cool guy. Most service managers try to rack up as much money as they possibly can so they can make the dealership think they are making sales. I was a valet, when I was younger, at Lexus and that's exactly how people got ripped off every day. I just called the service dept. at my local Mazda and said "Hey man, I've got a Mazdaspeed that's got the smart turn option turned off. Is there a time I can swing by and just get that feature flipped on?" The guy knew what I was talking about and when I showed up, he saw the AP and he was asking about how I like it, what mods I have, blablabla. So we spoke for a bit and I was like "So about that smart turn?". He goes "Oh yea!", calls a mechanic over to the drive-in area, hooks the laptop up, and turns on the feature for me. Service is everything man. Like I said, I got lucky lol

End of Cool Story

just called Jeff Haus is Houston, talked w/ Allen in service and he said it's doable and $30

make a "wish list" wasn't sure which options were avail on what models.

since we bought our car used, it think $30 is fair.

i picked up the new car today. i handed them the 3 pages of option choices available. i need to look at it again to make sure it was all done but the ones i remember were definitely done.

edit:
i used the manual available from mazdacanada site go to pages 511-514 (i used the 2012 model as there was not one avail for 2013 on the site yet)
http://www.mazda.ca/MciWeb/pdf/manua...Edition1_E.pdf

edit again: the usa site has the 13 available:

Seems like this is all on the dealership. When I got my transmission fixed recently, I just told the service writer that I wanted to change some of the options. When I picked it up, he had a tech pull it to the back and I went back and looked over all the possible options with the tech. He didn't rush me or anything - went through every option he could find. Nothing was written up for this - the possibility of a charge was not even mentioned.

All I ended up doing was turning the smart blinker and auto lock on.

My dealer was aware of the personalization options available for my '13. I'm going back this weekend for them to tint the car and they will be doing the personalization for me. Said the first time is free so to mark everything I want changed.

The back of my owners manual has several pages of options that can be changed
