Well, that's the idea, that's why we have all these vendors making efforts to bring us the parts we need at decent prices to modify our engines properly so that we do not go ZZB.

It is preferable that nobody ZZB's, but it is nice having a good back up plan if it ever does happen...

These have proven to be pretty popular! Can't very easily beat the convenience of receiving a long block, swapping your accessories over, and putting it in the car to get it back on the road quick. Plus shipping is included in the price!

I did but was simply due to having the spark plugs installed. If you want to crank motor by hand first remove spark plugs and have at it, much better option than leaving them in and fighting compression.
aforst likes this.

Hey Bamm88 how's it goin,

I just had my first ZZB encounter and boy does it suck lol

Anyways, I'm looking to get a bit more info on how your install went, if you've had any noise issues with the motor (ie; knocking, pinging, compression loss, etc), and anything you might want to make note.

I hate bothering people, but i'm about to drop some big cash (as you may know by experience) and I don't want to get screwed over. I did a shit load of research on that ATK company and kept reading crazy reviews on how people got screwed over bad by them.

Any help is much appreciated!

Thanks,

Fellow Zoomer

If anyone has purchased one of these can you guys let me know if you ran into any issues or anything?

Thanks!
Hard for me to say so far as I only have 2500km on it so far and only problem I have run into was my catch can froze solid and expanded blocking my lower port which stopped my motor from venting crankcase pressure which then blew out my oil seals in my K04. So right now my car is dead in my parking space until I can get a new turbo.

So far we haven't had anyone have an issue with this engine and we've got quite a few of them out there now. But none of them have a whole lot of miles at this time due to the fact they haven't been in the cars for more than a year.

NAPA remanufactured block

This guy had low compression after a few thousand miles, he did noticed pitting on the pistons though. BUT, ATK sent him a replacement and even paid him for the reinstall. Read the whole thread for the details.

Is that right out of the box? Compression will be on low side until ringlands are fully seated after break-in.

Which compression tester are you using? Did you use it right? Engine broken in? was engine warm?

That's what it says on the test sheet. I was getting 185-190 the last time I tested my last motor before ZZB.

These motors should also come with some writing on the gasket box stating compression they tested as I believe they test all cylinders on all motors before they ship one out. Compression listed on box is cold motor that has not been broken in so it will be lower until both items achieved.

I got ZZB on my MS6 recently and towed it straight to a dealership in haste. Seeing this thread makes the anal raping by Mazda that much more painful.

When/If my MS3 goes kaboom as well ... I am going this route instead if I choose not to go all out w/ a build. My asshole can only take so much.

Out of morbid curiosity, how much is the Mazda dealer charging? Are they swapping or rebuilding? What kind of warranty does the Mazda dealer give on the new motor?

Whoa NICE! Looks like that came with a new water pump & new HPFP!? #PeanutButterAndJealous

I kinda wish I would have bought a new motor direct from Mazda. Didn't know it was an option when I was making the purchase. It would have been ~$1K more than my remanufactured engine, but I wouldn't have had to swap in my old VC & Oil pan.

I'm guessing the new Mazda built motor will run better and probably last longer than the reman. I have no idea if mine has the updated VVT parts (I would expect the Mazda one to have it). My only consolation is that my reman has a 3yr unlimited miles warranty.

You did fine. If you read this thread back, your Edge reman does have upgraded VVT parts (as the original parts aren't even available anymore). Also, remember that your reman came with a gasket kit for a swap. Mine didn't and gaskets ended up running me an extra 500 or so I think.

I would have run an EDGE REMAN without thinking about it, they just couldn't guarantee me a lead time on delivery and Mazda had the new engines in stock about 100 miles away from me at their warehouse.

Through an auto repair shop which my friend owns called for options of getting a new long block for 08 speed from dealer. The dealer said they will be able to get new long block. Further questions found info that they get their long blocks from Texas or Washington and that it is new 0 mile remanufactured. So that's what I'm talking about.. By the way, my long block looks even prettier.

Yes, I think the longest we've ever had to wait is just short of three weeks and that was only once. Everything else has been less than 10 business days.

We have been selling a lot of these engines and so far, to my knowledge anyways, no one has had any issues. So I feel safe saying that this is an excellent option for anyone needing to get back on the road in a hurry!

Engine is still going strong in the speed 6 I put it in. While I don't have the car anymore, it is currently in Texas with a GTX3071 and still running around.

These have been a hugely popular option when it comes to replacing a ZZB MZR. The first one that we got went into a big turbo speed 6 and is still on the road today over a year later pumping out around 24psi on a GTX3071.

Called Edge today to check availability. Left a voicemail after nobody could answer the phone.
Anyone know if they have any available to ship late next week?
