Default AUTOTECH INTERNALS QUESTION

I'm a newb. I've been reading for a week or so. I've learned a lot; I know I need to upgrade my fuel pump first. That said, I ordered a Borla exhaust first. Anyway, next is the internal upgrade. My question is: If my only upgrade are the internals and exhaust, will running everything stock for a while with new internals cause an issue with fuel? i.e., running rich/lean, or change how my car is moving fuel? I hope I asked the question correctly.

I'll also be buying the V3 AP when I upgrade the internals.

Thanks, I'm just a novice tuner. Would like to run Stage II soon.

My order of upgrades:
1. borla
2. internals/AP
3. Corksport Stg II SRI, RMM, and colder plugs

after that, I don't know.

kevin

If that Borla exhaust is a cat back only, it's not going to do much of anything for your back pressure, and shouldn't give you any issues.

Add a test pipe and e-tune from one of the great tuners on here and you're done with the best bang-for-the-buck mods.

Welcome man!
Internals is always good idea to install immediately for peace of mind. It just capable to push fuel more than the stock, which can enable you to mod more and make it more powerful without worrying the fuel pump isnt pumping fuel enough. You should be fine with the new internals and that mods. I havent got internals, since i dont have money now! haha, but it will be definitely my next upgrade.

What RMM are you planning to run on?

Corksport RMM vs. the JBR. I'm going to get some opinions and do more thread reading first!

Yes, it's the Borla catback. I need to keep it legal, pass emissions testing in Nashville TN.

No step colder plugs.

I've said this at least a billion times on here.

RUN THE HOTTEST PLUGS YOU CAN WITHOUT PRE IGNITION.

If your plugs are too cold you will foul them out.

Which brand plugs do you suggest? I know at some point before Stage II the stock plugs will have to come out.

Thanks for the tip!

Nkg oem if you want

I have used the autolites for a while and work just find. Go stock heat range.

You r on right track. What car u have?

Dont forget maintenance like tranny fluid and diff fluid if u have a 6. Leak test and clean ur valves.

Compression/leakdown test will give u idea of engine health.

Good info, I have heard this can happen. Is it an overtime issue or pretty quick thing.

Depends on how much heat the insulator is actually retaining.

Too much and you get pre ignition (get step colder). Too little and you get plug fouling (get step hotter).

It all abou how far to either end of the spectrum you are. Every case is different.

Yes, it's the Borla catback. I need to keep it legal, pass emissions testing in Nashville TN.
I would recommend the JBR88 or the CPE Stage two as i feel they are the best offerings for RMM.

I do not have person experience with the stage 2 cpe do plan on moving to it over the winter.
The JBR88 i helped install on a friends car. hardly any added NVH i was quite impressed

Borla is an axleback for GenPu's BTW. I have the Corksport RMM and am impressed with it. 70d vibes less than stock almost, 80d vibrates but is not bad at all.

^^^^^^ I heard many good things about JBR88, that's what I would go for when I get the money. I just want to get rid of these annoying wheel hops, as well improving the shifting!

Primus sucks. This is a dumb question, but what is GenPu? Are you suggesting the Corksport CBE over the Borla?

@rcisdrummer; This is what you should've followed along with the RMM. Why did you get the exhaust first?

OP I'm on same track as you. I'm getting ap and internals by next month. I think the wife would flip if I got them now. Edgeautosports has like a deal on getting both at the same time.

It's not installed yet. Hasn't arrived yet, so I could possibly still get the Corksport. What's the difference? I thought they were the same exhaust set up.

Go with whatever exhaust you like. The Borla is only an axleback though. I recommended the Corksport rear mount. And Primus did suck, Les stopped that phrase in the mid 2000s. Good to see another fan, though!

I don't have an opinion either way on the exhaust! I was more or less saying that if you need to pass emissions, leave the exhaust alone all together and get internals, ap, intake, and RMM and be happy for awhile.

Sure. Makes sense. I"m more or less taking that route.

Awesome! Glad to see a Primus fan as well. I threw the Sux out to see the response! I love it. Primus is my favorite band; certain albums mind you. I've been listening to them since "92 or so. I'm a drummer here in Nashville; day job then hit the skins off hours. Anyway, Tim Alexander is in the practice space again. He's been jamming for a month or so with them. I can't wait to see what comes of it.

Wish I could say the same myself. Only been a fan for a few years since I'm a youngin. Herb is an amazing drummer so I love all of his albums he recorded with the group. There is a antipop is my favorite Brain album. Good luck with the car!

I haven't donated here yet. I've got 120sq ft of hardwood to put down, a room to paint, and a MPS to get a few bells and whistles the next couple months, and then a little something for these tweekers.

Yah I've had this car for a few months now and just been putting money away every paycheck. Now I've been buying parts and setting them aside to put them all on after I get the internals

Edge Auto has it well laid out but I would do additional reading and research as I dont feel it is as good as others advice.

Exhaust isnt recommended until your making over 350(? correct me if I'm wrong). TP, and much later DP, is recommended on the exhaust side. So you need to let us know if its for the sound or performance. My TP keeps me sounding stock at idle and aggressive enough when moving or zoom-zooming.

I much prefer the sound of the turbo from my SRI/TIP amd the BPV anyways. I bought turbo, not muscle.

Yah I felt the same way. now I have SRI/TIP cobb, and a V2 ap on the way. In the next couple weeks I'll have internals on the way. The next upgrade I want after that is a DP and a TMIC after that.

Well, to start I'd like a little more performance. The car is my daily driver to work and my travel car. I work 3 days a week and have time to hit the road for a while. I want to keep it for as long as it will run (+100,000 miles); moderate mods, able to run Stage II on occasion later but I won't do it often. Stay in Stage I tunes and flash to stock for my trips and such. I thought about the CS Stage II SRI since it has the TIP included for a decent price. Upgrading my internals, plugs, RMM, and getting the V3 AP. Enjoy that for a while then see what I'm feeling like.

I looked at the Borla, Cobb, and Cork exhausts; but like the ARK. I'd like a nice sound; a presence if you will. Not a fart box I hear running around Nashville; but low, tonal at idle but makes it self known. Tight and low I guess. Something that can lend itself for a little of both performance and sound. Listening to shit on youtube is hard to get a natural feel. I'm even using studio monitors to listen.
