Default bare bones budget rebuild

I've done much reading on here about what's available to build these motors. I'm not necessarily building my engine for more power, but for reliability. I have 140,000 miles on the odometer and the car is currently ripped apart from my turbo removal so I figured now would be the best time pull the motor.

I'm looking for advice/answers on what the best route is for me. I was thinking of getting the stage 3 rebuild kit from edgeauto and going from there, but I don't know if that contains everything I'd need or if it is as simple as replacing those parts.

I would like to (if the price is low enough) to drop in some new rods and pistons for peace of mind, but there aren't any shops remotely close to me to connect them.

can anyone shed some light on this for me?

Given the amount of miles on the current motor, you will need to make sure that none of the cylinders are out of round or excessive scoring on them prior to just replacing said parts.

You may have to take the block to a machinist. Just a thought.

that's the kind of information I'm looking for. I'm a noob when it comes to engine rebuilding and have absolutely no idea what prep work needs to be done.

i assume this something a specialty shop would have to perform?
