Mark that setup is so sick. Love the fact that it's twin-scroll. Too bad it's not running

Dj you're def doing the right thing with the top mount option. If I could do it again I would do the same. The fact that mine is vband right after the collector makes it a lot easier to work with. I wonder if you could do the runners to the side like mine and then vband at the collector. That would allow you to run a single tube after the v-band and place the turbo wherever you wanted. Just some thoughts.

We need a section where you have to be invited to be able to post so threads like this can only get help from people who the help is wanted from

May sound harsh but it gets tiring catering to people who ask questions about things they will never even ponder doing.

Anyway Dustin - Marks manifold is a great start. You'll have a little more flexibility as his turbo flange is larger as well as the space the turbo takes up. Running a smaller frame will make it slightly easier for you. Good news though - you're about to get A LOT of practice!!

A good idea could be to do it similar to the DCR you have. Build a manifold that sits lower for a top mount and then a modular pipe to the turbo so you can rotate and adjust it to fit best without having to do redesigns from the collector back instead of just hte collector forward!

@ the shop I was just at i saw a guy who had a gto w his turbos under the car in the back.....kinda where the mufflers would be sorta. i guess. he said theres no more or less leg bc its all st8 piping to and from. i asked why it was back there he said bc they didnt fit upfront w his new engine and it is much cooler there so they will work better and last longer.

Mark....... fycn. Srsly. I love your fucking setup.

I'm definitely liking the idea of top mount with v-band modular section from collector to turbo. I think this is gonna be pretty simple honestly.

SPD Exhaust has some pre-fabbed collectors that look pretty damn nice, and would save me the trouble of screwing up the most difficult part of the fabbing.
Merge Collectors

They have a v-band option and a turbo flange option, and you can specify everything down to the angles of the merge etc.

fuck i want my spare block already so i can start mocking this up... :-/

I'm gonna get the head flange made next week maybe.

how can you brace a top mount manifold or support the turbo so you won't have to reweld it all the time?

Look at the lower left hand corner of the turbo flange:

It's as simple as that. If i go v-band at the collector, i'll have to brace from that point, but i think it would be more than fine. I really like the modular approach, in case i ever end up going t-4 or something.. (i know it sounds stupid now, but i like planning for the future lol).

Bracing is gonna be important.

Okay, on the topic of bracing, i think this is the best way to do it.

Looking at both SS's and Mark's manifolds, the turbine flange is pretty close to the head flange, so i'm thinking of just making it one piece. And as long as it's placed right (or close enough, cause it looks like there is a gob of room), it'll serve as the jig for my pipe routing.

I can also add a wedge like i colored in the side shot in red. That'll help tremendously for support.

Now i need to think on the ewg setup. I don't want it to be under neath the mani cause it'll be hard to swap springs. So i'm thinking since i want unequal length runner intentionally, i'll just route them such that i can tuck the ewg up between two of them.

More MS Paint to come lol.

Not sure how feasible it is, but from looking at mark's pic's i think i can squeeze the EWG runner up under the down pipe, and then just recirc it back to the down pipe.

LOL, i'm pretty sure john hates my guts. Understandably so, but still.

I'll just get one made locally. My buddy (mfquint) has a spare pg mani i can use for a template. Can't really use the factory mani cause it's a two piece.

It does but it's just the pic. I've looked at the runner quite extensively and it is the exact same tubing and the exact same size. I think it is just how they did it.

DJ if you want some help of what it might look like from the backside of the motor here is a link to my thread from when I mocked up my setup on a spare block I had.

http://www.mazdaspeedforum.org/forum/foru...rk-road-50510/

and a couple of it mounted in a MS6 in blow through.

anyone interested that whole setup may be for sale, as I think its gonna be MS6 DD and Miata Project car.

I was thinking of making it with windows on the turbo flange section, so you can easily get in there. I think it would only need one "window" honestly.

Kinda like this.

We'll see how it looks when i get my motor to use as a jig. And even with a window, it'd provide a gob of bracing.

DJ, don't forget about the brake reservoir. I know when they did my mani, they had to do a really hard turn on the intake because of it. Mark's was done much better in that aspect, but if I had to do over again, I'd probably ask them to crook it a little sideways so that the transition was much smoother. I still may ask them to reduce my intake to 3.5 and redo it cause I really hate the hard transition.
