When you look at the cp-e filter on the MS3 you can see the built in velocity stack where the filter connects to MAF housing. This shape helps to smooth out the air and eliminate turbulence. Also when you look at the location of the MAF on your MS3 it was in the middle of the bend where air is going to tend to hug the outside of the bend and miss the MAF sensor altogether. When you look at the location of the MAF on dj's intake it is about 90 degrees to where yours was and closer to the start of the bend. There is a chance there may be some turbulence or noise here but it won't be near as bad as it was in your case.
The Sr20 maf's are designed to bolt straight to the filters. SR20's have the PTP uber wire mess mod on both sides of the maf to help with the air straitening. I think the bend on my sr20 set up was fine looks like i had about 5-6 inches before the bend but that turbulence from the turbo was whopping that ass from distance between maf and turbo defiantly. Literally all I did was move the maf farther away from the turbo and I could idle again no hicups when rolling into boots and could catch idle on decel. My piping was only 2.5 and a 50trim Dj's setup looks like a 4 inch inlet with a down syndrome turbo there's gotta be alot of turbulence to reign in on that. DJ just switch to speed density and call it a night lol.

I've had zero idle issues so far honestly. I can rev and let of the gas, and it just falls right back into idle. There may be a very slight stumble, but very very very minimal.

The maf placement on this intake is actually further away from the turbo than my last intake on the bottom mount, so maybe this intake is actually an improvement for me lol, for the same reason you just described. Last intake seemed to have a more difficult time returning to idle, and i always thought that was more due to VTA bov than anything. Perhaps not though.

You may be right cause I'm looking at the pic of my 240 and I'm like it looks like the maf is far away but in real life that shit looks like I mounted the maf right to the turbo inlet lol. Pics def exaggerate some length and distances.

Can you do me one favor when your finally able to get the car up to like 60-70 mph. Clutch in go to neutral and let the revs drop all the way down. coast down to like 40-45 and see if the car can still keep the idle or if it just stalls out.

Na, just the turbo connection. I kept mazda flanges elsewhere. Honestly... i'm not happy with my v-band clamp in this one. As i was tightening it, the opposite side of the threaded piece (which is supposed to be held still while you tighten) flexed all over the place. It felt like i was gonna break the clamp honestly.... so i'm in need of a higher quality clamp.

OMG I went through that on my 240. I swear they sent me Ebay aluminum foil vbands with my 1200 dollar turbo\Dp kit. I had to order a new set cause I wasn't comfortable with what was given. Or if your feeling like a balelr with your tax return you can spend $175 per clamp (and re-flange you piping) to run wiggins connectors........

After having that 4th mount I think it transfers too much stress to the side mounts and stockers can't take it thus they snap. luckily though when the sides blow if you have a front 4th mount the motor rests on it instead over aborting out the bottom of the engine bay.

That would always kill my Z but I'm pretty sure that was more because of the 8lb flywheel and lightweight internals and pulleys than the MAF sensor

Wait til she's sleeping and use a rear mount with a soft durometer bushing.

my mazda did it when I had issues and my 240 had a stock flywheel. if you had a Z strong chance it was a maf issue. I know when I use a z maf people still have that idle drop off issue and end up going blow through

Here ya go darkchild:

I would rev and completely let off the throttle, and just let the rpms fall naturally. First time it stuck perfect. Second time it had an ever so slight studder, but absolutely not a big deal.

I think i FINALLY got my oil feed to stop leaking (though now that i just typed that it's destined to leak forever :-/). There was quite a bit of mild fail, but win hopefully prevailed.

- frustrating fail of the evening:
Half parked my car in the garage to check for leak... yup still leaking. Okay, undo the feed line, and the myriad of adapters. Undo the 90* fitting/coupler in the CHRA... drop the 90* fitting/coupler into dark engine bay, with exhaust just hot enough to hurt you. Listen for it to hit the ground... "ping, pong, ting, tang"..... no thud.... "FUUUUUUUUUU".... get jack.... jack up car... think about crawling under car with jack as only support... decide against it based off previous luck. Spend 5 minutes fisting my car til i get a NPT prize. Clean everything up... add sealant... go back to install, and hoping... dear God, please let this be it.... put on 90* fitting/coupler... install first adapter... second adapter... tighten second adapter real good... snap.... "ARE YOU KIDDING!"

90* fitting/coupler breaks, half flies into dark abyss "ping pong ting tang...." no thud.... Other half remains lodged into CHRA, but fate threw me a bone, and it still had the hex portion on it.

Get into subaru... do my subaru god ritualistic prayer song... "please subaru god... don't let my transmission blow up on this drive". Drive to home depot, purchase all new parts (and extras)... go home... redo everything. Drive down the block and back up... thank God... no leak (yet?).

Find a better v-band clamp in my pile of fab parts... swap it out and seemingly fix an exhaust leak...

film above video for Darkoutlook.

Alot of fucking work to fix a stupid oil leak. But like Sean said... At least it's a top mount, cause it would sure as hell be alot harder in stock location

Our mounts and torque transfers are quite a bit different than the 3 though. The 6 doesn't need side mount upgrades at all. Actually, the side mount upgrades are a nightmare on the 6. We just needed the 4th mount to stop the front of the engine from jumping up. Speaking of that, I'll be needing one again since I sold mine in a moment of weakness.

Dustin, Congrats on getting to drive it again. Sounds mean in the pics. Could be the camera, but it definitely sounds different than before. How bad is the lag on that monster?

Hey, but you made it home to NM.

I should have bought yours when you were having the fire sale. My SU RMM sucks a cockapoo. BTW, the Xtant amps are still boxed up in my garage but I think I am going to horse trade a guy to install them and whatever speakers I buy in exchange for detailing his MS6.

Glad to see this come together D. I know you're searching for big power and that turbo's appropriate for that (kinda reminds me of SU Mark's GT40) - once it's buttoned up, it should be a beast. I pulled the Speed out of the garage since I crashed my winter beater and I'm enjoying my little K04 For the city where I spend most of my time, the fast spool is what I need.

I think alot of it is the camera lol. It's just overwhelmed. It sounds great though. Not bubbly like i hoped.. but not god awful loud and obnoxious. Spool is great honestly. Hitting 10psi like nothing.... vvvv vids below

Thanks man! The BW is just shy of a GT40 on compressor maps, and similar spool, so it'll be a perfect turbo for power. IIRC Mark was able to hit boost no problem by like mid 4k, so i'm expecting the same... and so far it seems like it'll happen.

More vid pr0n

Putting in some fresh... At one point in the drive i thought i was leaking again, cause smoke was coming out of the hood, so i pulled over, and the feed was fine. It was just burning off the left over oil that had soaked up in my turbo sock / maxi pad.

After pussy footing it into boost a few times, making sure things were okay afr wise... i gave it a goose.

It hit 10psi quite well. I'll post some data logs on my trip home with rpm and boost so you guys can see how well the spool is.

Here's another lil pull.

You can see tach and boost a bit better in that one. Flooring it at 3500 and i have 10 lbs just above 4k.

Works for me

Huge thanks to Sean for the sealant. I'm convinced i'd still be leakin without. It was a Russell fitting sealant:

On to the clack. I used an auto-stethoscope to listen around in the motor, and when i touch the valve cover... i didn't hear any ticks or clacks. And then Mikael (xman) sent me an email saying he had a similar issue which turned out to be his belt tensioner. So on the way to work, while i was looking for oil, i leaned over at watched the alternator belt, and there were two lil marks on it, in perfect unison with the noise. So now i'm leaning more toward a belt issue, or still possibly an exhaust issue. But honestly, the only exh leak i think i have right now is my v-band a bit still.

We'll see, hopefully more progress this week, and more boost

Our belt tensioners SUCK. The tiny little NAPA store down the street sells enough of them that they keep a couple in stock. (They don't stock much - every time I went there for a part for my old Accord they had to order it)

Yeah, i'm hoping is something simple like that. I should check my AC pulley too, cause i've had the center bolt fall out of that before, and it was a nightmare getting it back in.

If the motor sits for a long time, the tensioner will be noisy for the first few days of driving. I know this since I've parked my car during winter.

In for logs.
