i don't know if the long ass timing chain and vvt can hang @ that rpm either ? their has been a few with timing chain failures with different cams / springs / broke the vvt and stretched the chain
and i don't think he even wound it up to 7000
did you do a vvt delete?

good luck man

I think the chain failures have more to do with the fuel pump being on the other side of the block and driven by the cam. That is a lot of torque to put on something so small.

Either way, I like the project and really like how high you have set the bar.

I guess the real risk comes in on whether or not you'll have interference the instant a valve floats....

When a valve floats... the power will fall off pretty damn fast, and it'll be easily noticeable on the dyno.

So if / when i plan on playing with higher revs... i'm going to do it in like 100 rpm increments on a dyno.... and hope i simply just float a valve without doing any damage.

Personally, i think 7500 is doable without any modification... but i have absolutely no factual info to back that claim up. It's 99% hopeful thinking.

the tuner is going to go as high in the rpm as it will allow without breaking something. 8000rpm is too much for the work we are doing. we will take it to the limit before boom, will post up results, see what we get too .. this is a standard rebuild with bottom end balancing, valve springs.

My normal standard mazda 3 neo 2ltr cuts off at 7200rpm , so with valve springs and balancing this will be safe maybe 7200-7500rpm?

i dont think valve float will be a problem will the injectors be able to keep up? open and close 8.333 times per sec is that right?

VVT delete + forged internals and you can probably do 8000-8200rpm. If you have a turbo that spools around 4000rpm and is breathless up until, say, at least 7500 - WIN.

I just helped a local (jmhinkle) with his bt build, and we set his rev limit to 6900 rpm. He's been routinely bouncing off it several times since then. We'll probably keep walking it up to at least 7200 when we dyno tune. Stock block / stock valve train.

Can't wait for some updates, Wilksy.

I'm also going to be high reving as well with my big turbo. Good to se u are doing it , It's the only way to run a real time in the car once u go big turbo, because even if u make the power on a dyno u move the power band up so high in the rpm that your power band isn't long enough to run a real time in the 1320. 4200 to 6700 isn't much of a power band considering if power starts to come in at 42 your not make good power till almost 5k . I think once people start reving these things they will be a force not to be messed with.

Baby steps too... big turbos like fuel.... and DI does not lend itself lightly to high rpm's.

Increased fuel pressure will be key... and hopefully one day we'll have larger injectors... but til then... baby steps

I'm looking into the injectors with someone as we speak. The fuel pressure increase should be fine for now with meth or pick up injectors our biggest limitations as of now is not fuel.

Well I think I'm barely at 300 at the moment. I'm already becoming discontented because 2nd gear doesn't always break loose that much. 380 would hit the spot. 3rd would spin most of the time. Over 500 is cool, but I'm realizing more and more how little you can use that power, haha.

I'm also interested in this because I think that I'm going to be upping my rev limit.

After I put my 35r on, I'll start raising it, me thinks. No point in doing it now since my turbo is maxed out

Waiting on a call this week to let me know its running .. than its a 1000k run in and on the dyno ... not sure what rpm the first run will be? i feel they may keep it at 7000rpm. than get me to take it back after a few more k's are racked up for a lift in the rpm ( will know more later )

Don't you have the .55 a/r atp hotside? I dunno why, but I thought I read that somewhere.

So... Wouldn't a t3 hotside help raise the limits? Or you just wanna go 35R because you're a G unit warrior and you want 550 on the stock internals?

Yes. I want to see where the stock block will pop, but I don't think I'll be able to do it on my turbo

Well, I'm sure you could pop the block if you really wanted to...but I get what you're saying. I actually forgot that you were on ATP housing. That's very impressive. After weighing my options, I'm very tempted to get an ATP 3076, slap it on the stock manifold and see where 25psi gets me. I'm not that power hungry, but the k04 is just, bleh, up top.
