Hey Doug, can you do that epic install write up with complete parts list, cut bolt instructions, how to set up the coolant lines and oil lines, etc etc etc? I would help me out a ton.

I can sure try man. I was just down the Cape visiting fam and my bro left this afternoon, so I haven't been doing any car shit. But I'm laggin, and I'll get on it in the next couple of days. It's gonna rain anyways, so I can't do the venturi thing till Weds or Thurs anyways... this would be a great time to do it!

Yeah, sorry for not doing it myself. I walked Doug thru as much as possible. I even started a half ass write up and didn't continue. Then I started working too much in preperation for vacation. Big apologies to everyone for not following thru with it and big thanks to Doug for taking it over.

No apologies necessary Joel! Huge thanks to you for labeling everything in your PB account for me, and walking me through all the stuff I still had questions on. If it wasn't for all your great labeled pics and help on the phone, I would've been floundering at install! With all your help and pics, it went very smoothly, and was a one day install that saved me a cool $1K . For some reason I don't have a cool $1K in my account tho :/ LOL

Welp, I finally got the damn venturi all rigged up and now I'm just waiting on the welder. I took a bunch of pics, but IDK how much help they'll be. It's not that complicated, but it's a pita as my OCC is by the horn bracket, and it was tough getting a "T" fitting off of it. I may do a little write up later. I also changed my stock PCV valve. I took the black pvc box off as detached the coolant line right there as it kept getting in my fucking way. Took about an hour taking the mani off taking my time and getting to that. THEN I wasted over an hour trying to get this F'ing black plastic clip that holds the stock pcv valve to the black box thing. Luckily, I didn't break it (but I came damn close!).

So with my OCC mounted to the horn bracket, I added a 3" piece of hose to the OCC, then the T fitting. Bottom one goes under the car towards the exhaust, awaiting the welder. The other hose off the "T" goes to the intake mani, w/ a Jegs check valve in between there.

Here's a short vid.... oh, I also put a SURE intake mani spacer in while I was ripping my hands to shreds, lol:


So glad that shit is done! Gonna go for a spin now to see how what my BATs are like .

Some n00b in MD, lol. Dude, I did needed a 90* bend too! Matt Damond's check valve (which was working fine) had a 90* fitting so it pointed down. I realized I was kinda screwed, but just added about 1' of hose to the mani, and that was long enough to curve down without kinking (as seen in vid). However, I couldn't finish last night because I had to go grab a 90* elbow to mate the intake mani line with one of the hoses off the "T". No biggy, just an extra fitting. But DAMN that was a bitch to do!!! You see how tight that shit is down there?! I did my best to do everything dougefresh tight, except for the mani spacer. I'd say I did those 'snug' then an extra 1/4 to 1/2 turn. They're probably at 20lbs instead of 15, lol. W/E It doesn't look like it's being squished. I'll take a pic.

Thanks for the "T" fitting. BTW it's a 3/4" brass "T" fitting which is you CAN get at HD/LOWES, and it fits PERFECT. No one makes a 5/8" T. I also used 3/4" for the brass elbow and it fit perfect too. Forget the 5/8" crap.

Yeah, it was a great series . My liver hates me.

I didn't want to do any tuning until I got that venturi set up done. I was blowing my dip stick out left and right, and backfiring here and there under partial boost. I think it was from air getting trapped in my CC then purged out my dipstick. I calibrated my maf once, but I've seen my long term trims doing the Curley Shuffle, and again I suspect the CC. I replaced every coupler/piece of vac line at install, and I'm hitting 21psi, so I highly doubt I have any leaks. Plus everything is tight as hell.

I'd love to dyno tune, but I have no monies . I'm saving up for new tires as my front right is bubbled bad (shitty tires), and it's unsafe to even do 4th gear pulls. My buddy's are gonna help me w/ the tuning once the slash pipe is welded to the down pipe. At least then I'll be losing metered air at a consistent rate and I can tune for that. I can't tune for a ton of air being trapped, and then sometime popping out my dipsitck and backfiring at other times, lol.

Hoping to get the slash pipe welded on Tuesday. I'll have the maf calibrated and wot afrs completely dialed in shortly after. Then I'm switching from 100% water to 50/50 w/m mix. I'll lean it out some more and add more timing. I need to upgrade my map sensor to a 3-bar though. I want to run 23 psi. I may hook ebcs back up tomorrow (leave wdgc at 0 across the board so it does nothing, until venturi is done) and then add some small ass wgdc from 3K-4.5K rpms to bring that 16-17 psi up to 22psi, and decrease wgdc down as rpms increase so I keep a flat 22 or 23 psi from 4K to redline. Dustin and skates were giving me a hand as I've never had to mess with timing, and I"m currently getting some wot KR due to my retarded timing (and me being retarded, lol).

While searching for an awd DynoJet to get a baseline, I came across a shop not too far away that can weld my slash pipe on for the venturi for mad cheap. Other places were like $60-100, and were booked for a week+, and the owner is like "I just need to figure out a fair price for 10 minutes worth of work" lol. He said to bring like $10-20, so that is sweet. The DP will be drilled on Tuesday afternoon, so I should be good to go after that. Looking forward to finally getting that done!

I'm getting really tired of this:





Time to go clean that crap up. When I took my mani off last week, there was actually some oil INSIDE those large wire harness plugs. I'm sure there's more in there now. I'm just happy to have found a place, and they're not trying to rape me like some of the other joints.

The Jegs CC check valve that you recommended is in place. The other check valve is just loosely attached to the slash pipe via a 45* bend fitting I snagged from a local plumbing supply store. I was going to put some pipe sealant on it, but I figured I should wait until I see the welder in case it's harder to weld with it assembled. Then it's just a matter of uncapping the venturi OCC line, putting on the jegs CV seen in this pic, clamping her, and tidying up the lines.

I calibrated my maf yesterday and flashed the new map. I had to run a bunch of errands, so there's a good 50 miles on there now. I took a few maf g/s runs when I got home, but got into the Kettle One before checking them out.


I attached a couple (2 tabs). Nothing exciting, but the maf cal was pretty solid, and my trims are now within 3% everywhere. I attached a wot log from 2,800 rpms in 3rd I took yesterday for the hell of it. It was about 90F out, and again, my calc loads are low, and she's struggling to push air. Not concerned about that at all. Just gonna make sure I get hop on a dyno when it's 75F out or cooler, lol My g/s take a huge hit when it's hot out.

Damn, your turbo just keeps pullin hard to redline. And your g/s say the same. One thing that I noticed though is that it seems to take a while to get into open loop, you are in the high 13's afr for a full second after you step on it. What are your open loop tables set to?

Yeah I was worried about that too, which is why I took a wot log from 2800rpms. I noticed my calc load was low, and more importantly lower than my CL max table C values, which I always suspected is why many people get stuck I'm CL. I ran it by DJ and he agreed I should drop the loads I'm that range down to 1.2. I already flashed the new map, but its raining out so that kinda sux.

I'm sure there are better places to mount it, but it was a last minute idea on my way out the door, and it's raining out here. I actually like the location... for once there is something under my hood with super easy access. I only turned it about 3/4 turn, but I didn't even get a chance to test it out as it's shitty out here and the streets are busy.

Looking forward to getting the venturi done and get this beast in full swing. I'm running a little low on water, so once that's gone, I'm gonna start running my 50/50 w/m mix. I'll lean out my wot afrs from there, then hop on a dyno in the next month. I want to get my tires first. I finally feel really good about everything, and all the small bs stuff is being worked out .

I was actually a bit disappointed with that pull (except for 14* timing advance and no kr). She's doing her best to push air, but I need a bigger fmic, and the hot humid air sucks. Compare that log to one on a previous map (with not enough timing so I was getting a bunch of KR). I'm moving WAY more air, and my calc load is much higher.... damn heat!!

Tell me about it. I've been eyeing a meth kit for my car since it got so hot. Need more power. Haha.... I was checking out a dyno shop in Candia NH, which is in the next town over from me. It's AWD dynojet. 100 for 3 pulls though. If you want to hit that at some point, I'll roll with you.

Dude I saw that shop, Synaptic 3 performance right? That would be cool. I can go pretty damn soon. After Tuesday and some minor map tweaks I should be good for a baseline. I wonder how well that thing is calibrated? I find it's usually $100 for 3 pulls unless it's a dyno day, then it's like $65-$75. I'm not going on a hot ass day though... 75F max though (preferably 50, lol). Shoot me your # again as I got a new phone and can put it in now.

Tried calling for availability and their shit rings off the hook.... must be really busy.

Yea I think synaptic actually did work on a speed 3 or reg 3 here in NE. I'll try and find out some more info. You would need to rent the dyno on an hourly basis. I want to go

The more the merrier. I ain't rented that thing out for $150/hr or whatever it costs. By the time I got there, my laptop w/ XP on it will have croaked, lol. I just want some baseline numbers after I dial her in some more. No clue what she'll put down, but I now if it's 90F out, I'm gonna cancel anyways, haha.

I picked up a long thin funnel and some wider ones so I can easily fill my w/m tank up without spilling that toxic shit all over the place (tank mounted in trunk on Driver's side). I also snagged an oil pan for the changes, and some other nick nacks. I have about 1" of water left in the tank, and I was going to siphon it out with some excess hose or fuel line, and fill it with meth. Then I realized I just cleaned out my house with all the misc 'extra' parts, and I had nothing to siphon with, lol.

I'll just have to wait till it's almost fully gone. Got a gallon of DO's (Dougefresh's Own) 50/50 mix in the trunk:



along with the funnels (and a jack, stands, and a bunch of other crap slowing me down :/ After the venturi on Tues and then change my oil, I'm clearing everything out of the trunk, including the spare + jack. Should shed at least 200lbs with the crap that's in there now.

Welp, after a couple of big ass Kettle One martinis at dinner, when I pulled into my place, I remembered I had several feet of high temp vac line and about 4' of multipurpose hose in a thin 1'x1' box in my trunk! Sad that my memory works better after 6 shots of vodka, lol. So I used the multipurpose hose to siphon out the rest of the H20:



BTW... that little black tool bag with the small Craftsman ratchet set is what I've done all my installs with! And most of them out in my parking lot, LOL!!! (fml).

Then the new funnels made the meth fill up easy as pie, spill free, and safe as can be!



IDK how much H20 is left... I siphoned it all out of the tank, but there's a good 15' of line between the tank, pump, fs controller, and the nozzle. I don't even need to go wot to get rid of it (not that I won't, hahaha)... but with the start set to 2 psi, that shit will gone in an afternoon of driving around.... then I'll take some some logs and check my afrs, and see where they're at. I'm already a bit rich... actual wot afrs are 11.3 up top, whereas the commanded afrs are 11.7.

But, I'm gonna leave it as be until the venturi set up is done Tues. I want to scratch that variable off the list before the final tuning. Can't wait for Tues afternoon. I may just change my oil this weekend as I have a pan now ('closed pan' with cap so you can bring it in AZone and ditch it). My oil is fucking dirty, and it's been bugging the hell out of me. Not black, but not red, that's for sure, lol. Been about 3K miles, and I always drive hard. Looking forward to the venturi finally being done, fresh oil, w/m mix, some final tweaks, and then the dyno after I get new tires. Life is good!

Oh, and more importantly, I rescheduled my first CPA exam for mid-August today. That'll give me time to spend some more time w/ the family down the Cape the next two weekends and my bday, finish up the tune, then RAPE my first CPA exam, and the 3 that will follow. I should've had that done 2 years ago when I finished grad school. I passed the 1st exam I took np, then I joined my first forum... mazda6club. Always been a car dude, but never turned a wrench in my life before the MS6. In the past couple years on the forums, I've learned more, and had more fun than anything I've ever dug into this deep (pussy excluded). I've learned a ton thanks to all you folks, and although I coulda just stayed focused, passed my CPA np two years ago and be making good coin... I'm happy as a pig in shit with all I've learned and how my car came out thanks to all your guys, and my measly 23pc Craftsman set, a 22mm (egr), a 19mm for the hard fuel line nut, 2 sets of 10mm ratchetings for the fmic couplers, and that's about it! LOL!!! Though I FINALLY bought a nice Craftsman TQ wrench (10-75lbs) this past weekend (well it was a gift for my upcoming bday ).

I managed to get a couple 3rd and 4th pulls in while running meth. AFRs were a bit rich up top (11.3 w/ commanded 11.7... really not much change from just H20), so I pulled some fuel across those volts, and all the way up, and pulled a degree of timing @ load of 2.0, as I was getting a bit of consistent kr... .35 .7 and 1.05. That should just about do it. Not sure how things will be affected when the venturi is done, but I'll find out on Tuesday and do any necessary touch ups to the map. She pulls hard, but I need to upgrade my fmic. I need tires first tho, and my pockets are thin... fml. I'll be psyched when I get some new shoes, and she's fully dialed. Won't be long now
