Default Product recommendation JBR Tru-3.0 intake

Just finished installing this intake this morning. The overall fitment was good and uneventful. Having said that, I am not a fan of the supplied t-bolt clamps and I think they are a bit overkill. As an example, the turbo intake pipe does an abrupt turn into the coupler to the turbo. I couldn't get the pipe into the coupler far enough to get the t-bolt clamp on the other side of the pipe hump. I think the idea is for the clamp to grab the silicone coupler evenly around the pipe and not grab the pipe hump, yes? I messed with the t-bolt clamp for a while but I couldn't get it seated right so I just used a standard hose clamp and got it to grab and hold the coupler evenly to the pipe on the other side of the pipe hump.

I would recommend just using standard high quality hose clamps for all intake junctions (black if possible). One of the only good things Sure ever made were those nice black hose clamps. I had them and liked them. I tried to find a place that supplied the black clamps and couldn't find them anywhere. Something like these would be really nice for your intakes.

Otherwise, the finish on the pipe was on point, and I was very impressed with the MAF housing.

10/10 would buy again.
JBR and MD1032 like this.

My HTP 3.5" also used standard hose clamps. I was fine with them. They were unpainted/silver. Black would be a nice touch, but not necessary.

I got this before it was called "Tru" so think I have OD of 3.0 but IDK Ordered 2 years ago. I love it but did you not struggle at all with getting it onto the BNR @dale_gribble;?
The BNR inlet has OD of 60mm while OEM is 55mm and everyone I know had a hard time getting it on the BNR but I finally got it on...just not sure I ever want to take it off.

Or wait you got the aluminum one. Ah. I got the silicone one. Dampens the noise better and fits my next to my fat as battery better.

EDIT or was it always called "Tru"? I recall measuring it and it had an OD of 3.0"

I have the Tru 3" aluminum and like it alot. I had to cut some pieces of the battery box on the front right near the ecu bracket for it to fit, but you can't tell by looking at it from above.

The finish and quality is awesome and yeah the tbolt clamps are hard core lol.

The silicone one, JBR or any other, is a bitch to put on the BNR the first time or two. But it does stretch somewhat after a while and subsequent installs are not a problem.

Ya I ended up trying to stretch with a exhaust expander, use heat etc and finally was able to get on by just taking a razor to bevel the front inner edge. I have it held on with a hose clamp on turbo for some reason but wanted to swap it for a t-clamp. I guess if you say it will go back on easier I will give it a go some day.

I personally like the T clamps but they are wider so I can see where Dale may have had issues. I also personally like the sound out of all silicone intake better but clearly both are good products.

Didn't see this thread before. I do like the suggestion for these clamps. Slowly my included T bolt clamps on my 3.5" are disappearing. One broke during initial installation when I was tightening it down (believe me, wasn't even that tight). Put my BNR on this past weekend and the one around the turbo wouldn't even fit, so we had to replace it. Regular worm gear clamps are the best for functionality. I understand some people prefer the T bolts because they "look nicer" I guess.

T-bolt clamps don't risk chewing up couplers like some worm clamps can while tightening stuff down. So with that being said they have their purpose.

As far as popping tbolt clamps on your 3.5", did you check the size on the clamps? There are some that slightly vary in size, the largest being for the air filter to MAF housing IIRC.

I'm not trying to insult you, I just can't imagine breaking one. I've taken mine off and re torqued the hell out of them and still haven't come close to popping one yet. Still really happy with everything about this intake.
