Default HOWTO: Align your JBR shift knob the easy way

Today my knob showed up. I spent probably 5 minutes trying to get it lined up right, when I had a thought that turned out awesome on the first try.

1. Get a 3/8" allen wrench. This makes it easier, because of the shape of the allen wrench, but other tools/devices can be substituted.
2. Install the knob. Use the allen wrench or something else to note the angle that the knob sits at when installed.
3. Uninstall the knob.
4. Re-orient the knob to the (incorrect) angle it sits at when installed.
5. Maintaining the off-angle of the knob, insert the allen wrench into the knob via the bottom.
6. Holding the allen wrench steady, turn the knob to orient it properly. It may be worthwhile to have the knob a couple degrees off center (in the counter-clockwise direction), as this can help get it lined up absolutely perfectly.
7. *SLOWLY* reinstall the knob again, as spinning it fast can cause the jam nut to reorient slightly

Hope this helps!

Pardon my ignorance but is there a scientific reason for that, like counter weight or is it just cause you die a little inside when someone defaces your products? Lol

It's like peeling the stickers off the rubix cube. Yeah it works, but it won't ever be the same afterwards.

So it seems that someone was clever enough to use threads that were the same, or at least very close to, the same pitch as the shifter is threaded with. Another win for jbr.

Edit: or is the jam nut just a small Allen bolt without a head? Not quite sure of the mechanism.

Why not just keep the emblem separate from the knob so that after the knob is on correctly the consumer can put the shift pattern on themselves?

It was actually due to the adhesive you use. Last summer it melted to the point where I could basically freely spin the shift pattern decal. Seems to stay on okay but if I park in the sun for a while the sticker will rotate.

Mine will do the same, in the sun the decal basically just floats on liquid adhesive, then when it cools it sticks just fine.

I'm thinking Gorilla Glue or something similar will solve that.

I have used a little Teflon tape in the past to make sure the shift knob is nice and snug.

Well I suppose I could have made a thread about it but it's not that big of a deal. I just wanted to leave feedback on that aspect.

Kind of related because I read in another jbr knob thread that some people had gaps between their knob and the shift boot... I already posted this but here it is again.

I cut a piece off one of my stock shifter bushings and put that on top of the shift boot before I installed my knob. Makes the bottom of the shifter tighter against the shift boot, just to hold it in place a little better. Note: I have no gap...

Crappatalking on my big-ass phone.

No gap if install correctly. Adjust the jamb nut up inside the knob further.

Default HOWTO: Align your JBR shift knob the easy way

I don't have a gap on mine but the finish started to chip in a small area and the sticker on the top spins around. It still works the same as the day I got it. Can't really complain about a free shift knob though (won it OCC meet last year).

Just installed my new spherical knob. It didn't have a shift pattern button on it, so aligning it wasn't an issue.

And I gotta say, I love it. I probably wouldn't have bought it, but I won it so I figured that I'd try it out. I absolutely adore it. Perfect size, easy to grab, easy to shift, and feels amazing in my hand. If you're on the fence about getting it, just pull the trigger. You won't regret it.

+1 ^^

I bought a red spherical one and put the 3 o-rings on it. Took a few minutes to get the alignment right but goddamn what a perfect handful of shifting goodness when you're done.

I'm 6'1" and have medium-large hands and I'll try to put the size of this knob in perspective. It's like if your girlfriend went from a small B-cup that's not quite a handful to a proper C-cup that gives all your fingers something to hold onto.
