Default BT TIP

have you considered a turbo inlet pipe for big turbos? CPE is the only one that makes them and their getting harder and harder to find and are on the expensive side. i dont know how well you know silicone but it would certainly have to be made of that vs pipe.

with the quality of your products and the influx of BT cars,i dont see this being a small market

thank this post if you would buy a BT inlet from JBR!!!

Jamie did mention a 3.5" intake in his new thread. Maybe this will be included with it's release

Whoever makes it, please make sure it extends from the inlet enough to clear the block and tubing / wiring next to the block.

IMO, most of the tip's (for the k04 @ least) don't extend out far enough.

I know the battery box is an issue, but I'd rather have the pipe closer to the battery box than the block.

What about getting something like and HTP inlet and getting a bigger coupler on the turbo side? That will essentially be the same shape as CP-E's....

superskaterxes, another thing that I think that we could use is a battery relocation kit.

i.e. if someone like Jbarone could hook up with Braille, and create a relocation kit that would use some of the existing mounting holes, I'd buy it before even going BT.

Having a relocation kit with a small battery would make getting to the fuel pump, turbo, hell... everything so much easier.

I really dread the thought of battery relocation heh.

A kit would put my mind to ease..well..a bit more?

im not a big fan of the smaller batteries esp for people who live in cold climates (even us east coasters) as you can already see the ECU has battery voltage compensation tables so moving to a smaller battery that may not hold the charge/life of a normal size just raises issues in my head lol.

I am currently working on a battery box for the braille batteries, and a large TIP for the 35r. The battery box will utilize two of the factory box bolt holes and one hole will have to be drilled and tapped. This will give me a chance to up the size of the inlet to 4", possibly larger. I will know more once I receive the material (hopefully tomorrow)

FWIW,

@drummermike58 was having horrible random KR problems the last few weeks. he would do 5 logs in a row with no knock and then have 2k RPM's worth of 6 KR at WOT in the next one (all back to back). we adjusted his sensitivity and tried all sorts of crap but couldn't figure it out.

today his battery died and he went to get it checked and it failed the test. he put in a new optima redtop and nothing he does now is making the KR come back. just food for thought lol

Lots of good ideas here...thanks.

I'll shed some light on what we're working on. I have several silicone manufactures I'm interviewing. Silicone is not inexpensive to develop and I'm not in a position to do large intakes/tips in silicone yet. Typical intakes for the stock turbo is where I'm focusing my attention when it pertains to silicone, for right now. I'm small (not in the penis) so I need to focus my capital on quicker returns.

As for the 3.5" intake I spoke of, it will be all one piece from filter to turbo and constructed out of aluminum. I know it's not silicone, but it's very nice, it will perform very well and I think there's many who'll be interested in an affordable solution. As JBR grows I will get to all things awesome but, without a large infusion of capitol it's gonna take time and I have no interest in looking for money to grow this. I'm really in to maintaining a safe business model.

I'll put some pics up of the intake middle of next week.

Battery relocation and ECU mounting options are in the works.

Thanks,
Jamie

Hmm, that sounds very interesting. I won't ask any questions about it as I don't expect you to want to reveal too much about the intake just yet

Good idea on the replaceable nipples. And for actually putting metal ones on there in the first place.

newb question @jbarone, for a 2010 ms3, will these be able to fit in the current TIP/SRI location without clearance issues, or will there be interference with the ECU or battery box?

Can't really remember from memory how much room we have here, but i know even the Corksport TIP was somewhat of a tight fit. Thanks for the info!

Actually yes I think a larger intake will help the K04 guys as well. Jamie planning to supply a coupler for the K04 guys?

Also does the filter have a velocity stack built in?

fwiw, you can modify your K04 CP-E TIP easily for BT builds. Of course, this wont work for shit if the turbo doesn't remain in the stock location. but, this is tested to work if you have a medieval or DNP mani, with 28r\30r. it will prolly work with cpe's new mani too. All you need is a sharp knife, a small piece of scrap exhaust tubing (to clamp on to, available at autozone) and the proper adapter. I suppose not all of you are as frugal\broke as i, so take it or leave it

We can def use big maf options...no way I'm paying 250 to CPE for their POS.

Currently looking at KSTech intakes for scoobie which work for us. He has them in every size up to 83mm [3.25 "]

I am buying one in the next few weeks but if JBR offered just an 83mm intake with vac port I would buy it. Hell I guess I'd buy a 90mm as well. Already have whale dick so I dont need a TIP.

edit: whale dick TIP not penis...haha

You'll need to relocate the ECU.

Yes, I have the couplers for the K04 already.

The air filter in the pics is a cone style K&N knock off. It's a pretty good filter really. It can be used as is or oiled and it's washable. I'll explore other filter options in time.

When you say vac port, do you mean the port for the valve cover vent hose?

Exactly, 6mm ID IIRC. Most if not all big mafs lack this. I suppose I could modify the CPE inlet port to enlarge it from the stepdown nipple it has to ~4mm but not sure the volume would be enough.

Thanks.

And BTW isn't only an ECU relocate needed for a 3-4" "TIP. The battery box isn't necessarily the issue but the 2" thick ECU box. Just thinking out loud and haven't actually looked close but just mounting the ECU to the front of the bat box might suffice and waaaay easier.

edit: the Amsoil's are badass and might be a good option. KStech will swap from a KN to Amsoil for 35 extra and the Amsoil's have v stacks. you might offer the same or similar options.

edit: I just looked back at your intake/TIP combo and see you already have the correct nipple sizes available.
