^^^ Agree with this as well. Filled up today. Averaged my personal best of 360 miles on tank at 26.8 mpg hand calculated. HUD said 12 mile range left with one bar still showing. Pumped 13.4 gallons of 93. So technically I still had roughly 1.6ish gallons and at least another 40ish miles to go. Could have easily hit 400miles on full tank.

If I really start working through traffic, speeding the mpg goes all over the place 6 then 3mpgs never really got 0 yet. I got my personal best going to Boston I got 32 mpg at 65mph cruise 96% of the way , personally I've seen the best mileage on cars i've owned just by stream lining the exhaust and intake , meaning just opening it up to be more efficient I had a '97 awd talon with fmic , intake , 16g turbo , evo 3 manifold and full 3" exhaust getting 28mpgs highway (should have never sold it )

Best: 32.5 (all highway with cruise)
Worst: 16.3 (much of the tank was used in a snowy parking lot in circles)
All hand calculated

I'm noticing a trend, 31 -32 mpg on highway with cruise, and at least an intake right? Would make sense if the stock airbox restrictions were removed.

That's what I have seen. On mix driving about a 3-4 mpg increase when removing factory box. SRI or CAI Def the most needed and benificial parts on the speeds.

Can't wait for my CS SRI then. Not that MPG is extremely concerning to me, as I know exactly why my daily MPG is so low (a little over 3 miles from home to work one way, several traffic lights, lunch trips, etc). I'd consider using my mountain bike to get to work, but I don't want to get killed.

I averaged 28.6 mpg over 6,526 miles from dec 1st 2010- april 19th 2011 with snow tires and steel wheels on in the boston area. I expect to do better over the next few months.

My apologies for dredging up an old topic, but...

I had a long drive today (~ 400miles total), and decided I'd see just how much I could eke out of a tank of gas without driving below 62mph. I got home with the following showing on my trip odometer and gas gauge:

(apologies for the shitty cellphone pic)
....

If we believe the gas gauge's accuracy, then I did nearly 39mpg (~7/16 of a tank remaining) over those 352.xx miles. I DON'T believe it. I'm much more inclined to believe the fuel consumption numbers from my AP, as they're generally almost exactly 2mpg optimistic. As a result, my AP says that I did 39.5mpg, so 37.5mpg in a 3600lb car with about 300lbs of me and my stuff in it is pretty freaking good.

Oh...as far as other variables are concerned...I had the air-con on recirc set at 60-65 degrees the entire way, and the ambient temperature ranged from 92F degrees (Madison) to 96F (Chicago) to 82F (Ann Arbor area).

I think with some minor aero mods, it could be a 40+mpg car on the highway and still turn sub 14 second quarter miles.

I never believe any of the mpg gauges on the car. One time I was reading 9L/100km (26.13 mpg). It turned out to be 11L/100km (21.38 mpg). This was after a reset on a full fillup, hand calculated at the pump. The mpg meter is just bullshit to make you feel better.

Yeah, anyone who quotes that display I immediately disregard. I log every fillup and current mileage. See my signature for how and my numbers.

I'm in the same boat. 31-32 mpg. I driver a lot of highway (gf is getting her masters in Albany and I'm getting mine in Phila. I also am a soccer coach so I'm up and down the east coast). I generally coast when going down long hills and crap like that. I feel like this justifies me going wot merging from on ramps. Usually go 80-85mph the whole trip (thank you radar detection equipment).

I would say that the radar detector has been more beneficial than my cai when it comes to $$ saving mods ha.

all cars can get HYPER mileage.

Guess no one ever seen that episode of Top Gear. TT Jag gets like 55 MPGs with air con 4300 lbs Jeremy driving windows down partially everything to negate mileage...

my MPG depends entirely on my mood. Two weeks ago I was having a lot of fun in the car on back roads and some country roads, so I hand counted about 18 MPG. This weekend I drove down to NYC and back up again and hand-counted 26.5 MPG. And yesterday I was doing some more fun reserved driving and I was down to about 21.3 MPG.

Doesn't bother me really...if I wanted insane fuel economy I'd be riding a Bike.

As accurate as the carputer. Just measure how far you go between fill ups and divide that by the gallons of fuel you put in.

As an update, I finally had to fill up today after running it down until the idiot light came on. I put in 15.4 gallons and had travelled 541 miles. It's definitely a record for me, but it was almost entirely highway driving with only about 10 minutes of "city". All in all, it still works out to 35.1mpg.

I still think this thing can do 40 with some very minor aero mods.

I have a CS SRI recently installed, I want to test its highway economy in the same manner. Gas station near the highway, drive to the next city, fill up again with a gas station near the highway. Less than 5 min of city time.

What was your speed? Were you using cruise?

I drive about 80% highway @60 - 65 mph. So far i got 29, 28, 27, 25, and 24 mpg since i have been keeping track. my fillup are anywere for 12 to 13 gallons and mileage 325 up 365. I also try and coast as much as possiable. Like if i see a light turning and i know i am going to have to stop i throw it in nuetral. Hey if i could drive harder i would but i put 70 miles on my car a day going to work f*#@ me with the gas prices as high as they are

Putting it in neutral and coasting is dangerous, may be illegal, and doesn't trigger deceleration fuel cutoff. DFCO occurs when your forward momentum and current in-gear keep the engine turning over, putting it in neutral forces the engine to inject gas to keep it from stalling. Watch your instant fuel readout next time, you'll see '-.-' in neutral and '0.0' in gear when coasting.

Just remember, the 'wtf dude' face is bad... and the 'omgwowbbq' face is good.

Also, I did the test above... 65 miles with only 5 min of city driving, 33 mpg calculated at the pump. Saving fuel when you have nothing else better to do isn't necessarily a bad thing, I just don't let it get in the way of fun.

My last fill up i put in 12.6 gallons and made a little over 330 miles. My daily commute is 44 miles of 45mph highway and red light filled city driving. I find it really hard to drive gently between redlights, low end torque is fun stuff.

some of them have a 55 to 65 highway we have a 70 speed limit but we drive 80+ thats the problem. if you drive 45mph to 60mph maintaining the rev on the 2k to 2.8k, i got a 12.51/396.4 = 31.68.

Ps it was hell keeping my foot of the pedal.

14 months of data from my MS3. Avg. MPH from trip computer, MPG calculated by hand, each diamond is one fill-up. Trip computer is 2.5 +/- 0.8 MPG higher. I'm surprised how linear it appears. Probably flattens out and then turns over at higher speeds.

I was seeing 18 on the regular and one tank was less than that. My wife took the car recently on a trip and she averaged 30. After I saw it was possible, I've changed my driving habits.

Computer shows 28.6 average over 12k miles. Mostly around town driving. When i get on the interstate the car achieves 30-31mpg everytime. I only have an intake.

I don't know if I could possibly go an entire tank and get that kind of mileage. I can't understand how you guys drive this car without getting on it at all. I'd have to drive like grandma to see even 25 or 26mpg.

I've seen that if I'm driving highway immediately after a fill-up. Problem is, my car rarely sees the highway, and if it does, it's usually in heavy traffic.

I'm talking more about in-town driving. I typically don't see higher than 22 or 23mpg, and that's on the overly optimistic HUD.

Don't have an AP, but if there are any changes to MPG since installing my SRI, they're negligible.
