Connected the right wires and it works great now. Not sure about that whole BCM part if I ever need to rewire for stock...but at the moment it's all good.

Thanks for the right up! Took me all of a few minutes! The only thing is that the wires are so small it will be a bitch to go back to stock after, but I just signed a 6 year loan so I don't have to worry about that for a while!

Question on this:

Does the OEM foglight switch still turn the fog lights on and off?

great mod - been braining over this myself, more on the engine relay side thinking to connect the sidemarker relay to the fog relay. this is a more refined version of my plan!

I believe in Europe, this is a standard thing. Fog lights were originally designed to be turned on with no other lights, that's how they penetrate the fog. Having the headlights on just makes the fog lights useless except for a cosmetic addition. But correct me if i am wrong

I am in no way electrically inclined, and this took me 20 mins. Mostly because I have slightly larger hands and I couldn't get back there with out making a little more room. This was a very help How-To and I love being able to rock parkers and fogs. One question though. The fogs now stay on with the high beams, is that something that could fail inspection?

I hate to beat a dead horse, but if the fogs are left on when the cars is turned off, will the fogs also come on when the parking lights flash when arming/disarming the alarm? My issue is that I am putting in HID's and I don't want the lights starting every time the car is locked or unlocked.

I have his high and lows. Everything works fine. The fogs DO NOT flash with the turn signals/hazards.

Excellent. I thought the running lights were flashing when the alarm was set. I didn't realize it was just the turn signals. I will be modding tomorrow after work. I put in the HID's today and my neck and back are paying for it. I'll update after I do the mod. Thanks again to the OP.

Just did this on a 2012 MS3, nontech, worked like a charm - Thanks for the awesome hack.
Funny tidbit - when you have the wires connected after cutting them, and the two plugs are unplugged, and you turn the key to Ign, the rear wire starts wiping, and cannot be turned off. If you turn car off, plug the plugs back in, and turn car back on everything works just fine.

Yeah, had to be super careful sticking the soldergun in there.... very worth it though - I use the parking lights/foglights as DRLs, so that the headlights don't always have to be on.

Alright so I'm having some issues with this mod.

Here is the rundown. I can use the fog lights independently of the headlights. Also my fog lights stay on when I run my high beams ( the main reason I actually wanted to do this, so that way my HID fog lights aren't getting damaged from being turned off and on repeatedly ).

But with that comes these issues:

If I leave my fog light switch turned on, with the headlights/parking lights off and I press my brake pedal...my fog lights turn on with the brake pedal.

If I turn the fog light switch off, with the headlights/parking lights off and I press my brake pedal...my LED switchback running lights/turn signals turn on as running lights.

So in order to prevent the fog lights/running lights from turning on with the brake pedal I have to keep my running lights on all the time even when I don't want to just run the fogs.

Is anyone else having issues with this?

I do have all LED brake lights / running lights in the car. With 6ohm resistors on each turn signal bulb/running light to prevent hyper-flash. So I'm not sure if that could be causing an issue or not. I'm thinking not since the HID's act up too but it's worth noting.

Tagging all of those who said they did it to see if anyone else has this issue?

@fishin53; @ruthless013; @PoisenSpeed3; @acts; @xtwoonamatchx; @cskinner; @BAT-man; @Cevaes_64;

Here is a quick video showing you what I'm talking about:

And just to be clear when I say headlights off in the video I mean the headlights and running lights. The glow you see is from my on with ignition LED's in the 'Nagare' design in the lights.

@fishin53; @ruthless013; @PoisenSpeed3; @acts; @xtwoonamatchx; @cskinner; @BAT-man; @Cevaes_64;

Here is a quick video showing you what I'm talking about:

And just to be clear when I say headlights off in the video I mean the headlights and running lights. The glow you see is from my on with ignition LED's in the 'Nagare' design in the lights.

I would go back and check all of your wiring. It sounds like you may have connected the wrong wires. My fog light switch will turn them off and on... but they turn on with the parking lights, lows, and highs. If i have them off and hit the brakes they don't come on. I would go through and put everything back how it was then try again.

Not being familiar with what wires all do what, I think you connected the switched wire for the brake pedal to the parking lights and fog lights.

It does seem like that, but you would think if I cut the brake switch wire then my brake lights wouldn't work, which they do.

And I tapped into the exact wires shown in the tutorial. And everything else is working how it should. Very strange to me...

Yep, the wires coming out of the BCM are taped off and not touching anything.

The issue for me is that the fog light side of the green wire gets about 9v of power ( with vehicle shut off ) when you press the brakes. Which is what is causing this issue for me.

It is for sure the same green wire that is shown in the picture. Very top plug, 6 pins down on the right side of the plug. That wire is cut and the fog side is connected to the switch side of the orange wire.

Video of me testing power at the cut side of the green wire going to the fog lights...

And also the little blue light near the map lights goes on and off with the brakes too, not just the fog lights/parking lights. But the lights in the door handles do not go on and off.

I hope someone can point out my obvious stupidity in this situation. I don't understand...

Your write up was spot on, thanks ...as for my install, it was an epic fail except for the fact that I eventually got them working... That wire your looking at came from the power adapter for a cordless phone's charging base @ahfunaki; did you ever get them to work right?

Well they work fine, I can run them independently and everything. But as for the other issue it still hasn't been figured out.

I think I'm over trying to figure it out. I just keep my running lights on any time I'm in the car...haha

Great write up!
The way you have the wires bypassed sounds like the fogs will come on whenever you turn the parking lights on and the fog light switch will basically be disabled.
However, based on the layout of the diagram, where is a picture location of the black wire return from the fog light switch. The diagram you have says "left end of dash" but that could be anywhere in there.
The reason I ask is because I'd like to wire it so that the parking lights will work as normal and turn on without the fogs but the fog light switch will not be active until the parking lights are on giving me the option and to not have my fogs permanently attached to my parking lights.
Thanks

EDIT: Oh wait hang on, it breaks the ground and the switch is still in the way of the ground so they'll still work independently.
It's late I'm going to bed I can't brain right now I has the dumb

so technically since both are grounds (just depending on what switch is engaged) then you don't need to cut the wires? you can just run a cable between them with some crimps?

Shoebox.... To get this right. On the 2013 you did not need to gut the wires, you just tapped into them causing the connection to be made? I am one who is NOT a fan of cutting the stock wires... So I was gonna try the "t" taps and connect them as a jumper meNing the stick is all the same.

Thanks, Dave "Workdaddy"

Here Are a few before and after mod shots

First before the mod (head lights, stock fogs, and after market fogs)

Second is after the mod, allowing the headlights out, keep in mind the day time running lights are part of the park light wording set up (that's why I went led on DRL)
I love how much yellow she puts out....
