Default Going bigger FMIC core to support bigger power

Guys,

I am currently on Cobb FMIC kit and the core was measured at 24" x 6.5" x 3.5" which is good for 400whp-ish. I do have plan to go beyond 400whp and seeing the needs of increasing the cooling capability and getting consistent power output for every WOT pull.

The new core candidate is Threadstone TR10C 22" X 10.5" X 3.5" (yes, it is centered in/out) with Ultimate Racing crash bar. If you looked at the attachment pic, the Cobb core was having 6.5" height with inlet/outlet situated at top of the core. Now with Threadstone core, I just need additional 4" to fit the 10.5" height of new core. Hence, I came to the conclusion of choosing TR10C to fit the 4" on above inlet/outlet the Cobb piping is.

Have any of you guys having this combo? Or any opinions if this will works?

Add a duel meth setup, for cooling and power. No need for a bigger FMIC then

What makes you think the COBB is only good for 400.

Well, it is a question to Cobb or anyone else making intercooler cores. I certainly do not have any equipment or tool to measure that but I do rely on online information that published by other vendors on HP supported by their core. You can compare the same core size as Cobb and you can find most of them end up with around 350-450hp range.

I do not see any harm on upgrading to larger ones if you are setting power goal exceeding 500whp. Secondly, I lives in Asia with hot tropical heat ~96F all the times which it is very different than you guys in States and making good power at 50F aka boost weather. At times, we were having bad heat soak on dyno and can't make consistent back-to-back pull even with huge fan blower at the front.

I do have meth running but I want to upgrade the cooling capability without losing consistency on every pull. Hope that help to clarify the intention.

If you're running meth and things on the car aren't consistent between runs, seems like you have other problems you should worry about before going with a bigger core. I have a TR8, down here in FL with 95* weather and the humidity, I really don't see BAT's higher than 120* unless i'm in stop and go traffic. Once it gets moving they stay ~110 or less, obviously depending on the weather.

When I went on an actual dyno I had the shitty cx core, it was 91* out and humid, 3 runs were 325/346, 321/350, and 326/348, and I don't use meth, I doubt it's the core.

If you're going with meth there's no use to even get a gigantic core. Meth will do the extra work w/o all the pressure drop of a humongous core.

get a TR8 and a crashbar and don't worry about a thing else, its on sale at @edgeautosport; right now. anything bigger than that would be a waste

NOTE: Cobb core is a really good quality core. but TR8 IMO is better

Updates: TR10C is now mounted. Bumper beam cut out to fit it. The beam have been strengthen with additional metal bar fitted behind it.

In case you wondering, TR10C (28") is about 2" shorter in overall length (end-to-end measurement) compared to Cobb (30") core. You can see the brackets holding it having more lateral distance.

Here is the improvement data after running TR10C. Definitely seeing more consistent vdyno result from back-to-back pull with TR10C. Note my car is running ATP GTX2867 with flat boost 24psi to redline.
