ok and after connecting it, you can go into some Torque menu about the obd device and you can check it's status to know how much pids/sec you can get.
The 15$ one usually give 15-20 and yours state 5 times faster so i would expect 75-100pids/sec

So mano, did you get a chance to try it out? I'm getting random disconnects with my eBay adapter when hitting hard bumps so if that OBD link is significantly quicker, I might splurge and get one.

I got similar issues, i tried tu bend copper terminal bus on the adapter itself and it helped a little but it looks like the MAzda connector seem to get loose over time.

I'm happy to report that I havn't had one drop since switching to the obd link adapter... And boy is it fast! Getting 75 PID/s consistently and I love the auto sleep mode so you can leave it plugged in without batt drain
I did experience a little quirkiness with the genpu specific plug in PIDs vanishing after changing the adapter but uninstalling and reinstalling the plugin fixed it.

Sweet, thanks for the report! Did you notice any improvement latency wise? I have a 300-400ms lag and don't know if it's because of bluetooth or the adapter.

Just downloaded this at work today since I was bored and trying to remove the default displays that come up in realtime mode. I don't have my OBD yet but how do I remove all those 1/4 mile time things etc and replace them with KR, Boost (I think is already there), fuel rail pressure, etc ?

EDIT: Im dumb and didn't long press the different displays themselves..figured it out

I haven't been able to precisely analyse it yet, but for me there was a noticeable increase in speed with my MANY PIDs as well as a reduction in lag. The RPM is now in tandem with the stock gauge cluster. Most if not all the perceivable lag is gone. It's really fast and I'm really happy with it compared to my results with the cheapie.
Is there place where you can check the latency just like the PID speed? I'll have to check again cause I don't remember seeing that.

No there isn't, only by eyeballing. But if you can't really notice any lag, then it's definitly quicker as with mine it's really obvious. Looks like I'll be placing an order for one of these tonight!

Good news! but since you have a gen pu, i wish to get same on my gen one.
It is time to order one! i may choose the LX green one that is cheaper but claim same speed...

I just ordered green. The more expensive one has access to GM and Ford codes that is don't need and don't want to pay extra for.

Ya the lx will be a great option - I only sprung for the mx because I do intend to also use it as a diagnostic tool on other vehicles

I have encountered a problem using Torque on my CX7. This is early days so I don't have all the error codes etc.

The story so far:
Bought a used Kiwi bluetooth adaptor and installed Torque on an Android tablet.
This created network comms errors, typically on restart and reported 11 adaptor errors.
It would set all the dash warning lights off and required a fault code reset. Car ran fine regardless.
Thought I might have a dud adaptor so I ordered an LX.
Installed LX yesterday and it tested fine.
Same thing happened when I restarted the car this morning.

My question is has anyone else had the adapter cause network comm errors on their Mazda?

I will try and recreate the error and collect the error codes when I get a chance this weekend.

@DevinTheDood can you tell us more about what you can read under the adaptater status when using torque. I will appreciate.
Is there showing ''obdlink'' under device name with a special version? I ask because i bough an obdlink that seem to ba a scam, as it isn't faster and still show ELM327 V1.5 there when connected to it. The speed is even slower than my first ELM327. The plastic case it identical but seem to have chineese stuff inside...

That's really weird. With my first adapter, 10$ ebay long format, I would get random disconnects when hitting large bumps on the road but nothing like what you describe.

Great........ yeah it definitely sounds like you have a counterfeit adapter. Under "adapter status" my adapter is clearly identified as "ObdLink MX" with a mac address-like number following. I am also able to enable the "faster communication" setting without issues. Also the speed itself is telltale. The ODBLink MX/LX is so much faster that when I load an RPM gauge it's nearly perfectly synched to my stock RPM gauge. Night and day compared to the cheap adapter. I also had random disconnect issues that became CONSTANT with my first cheapie adapter just like @speedaholic; has.

Where did you purchase this adapter? Can you post some pics? We need to raise the alarm if someone is now hocking counterfeit OBDLinks!



I purchased mine directly from amazon right around the time they first starting selling the OBDLinks as stated earlier in the thread. I would hope that this is still a safe way to go besides ordering directly from scantool.net (for a bit more $$$).

I noticed that the regular price for both the LX and MX has gone down on the scantool.net site and isn't too far from amazon's price now. I double checked and they ship to secessionist french-Canada

the bad copy i just received was this one. They already modified the text of the ad since i bough it. I remember about reading a copy of the description found on scantool.net about the LX or MX reading speed and other sentences. This make me decide to try it , i knew it gonna be a chineese copy but it could have been a new design working better but it isn't. It isn't a complete lost since it works fine for what it is but this would be my third BT dongle....I should re-sell them and buy a good one...
The only confusing part remaining from the add is that one:

I wanted to get this set up, but when I looked in play store the Mazdaspeed plugins for Torque don't seem to be present. Anyone know WTF??

According to google search they should be at:

My understanding was that the plugin checked for licensing or whatever fairly often. Is torque+plugin still working properly for everyone?

mine still works...Just don't rely on just the knock retard reading from this app. when using a cheap elm327 as you may miss some data.

For me, the newest version of torque doesn't want to register the PID's from the addon. The addon shows under the plugins menu, but when I go to add the custom PID's the Mazdaspeed option doesn't exist.

Sounds like maybe the plugin didn't grab licenses and the system went kaput. That sucks!

You have to be connected the interwebz to load the plugin for the first time and for random liscence checks. It sucks and I mentionned the problem to Matt Jackson but I don't think he'll update anytime soon.

Try to uninstall/reinstall both app and plugin and connect to wifi/data when loading it.

not sure if you need to un-install re-install but for sure, you need to be connected to a wifi or internet for a while before being able to run the add on.
When i occasionnaly lose the WG duty and KR reading, i have to bring me phone home to be connected to a wifi for a while, and then, open torque, and wait again to let the add check into it's web data if i have a paid licence, and then, try to load the pluging for the speed with configuraiton menu from torque. Sometimes i have to close and re-open the torque app and wait longer to see the speed plugin availaible. It sucks when you are in a hurry...

Curiously, i also experienced some issues if i shut off the car when torque continue running. If i restart it without restarting torque, only the basic data works and i have to reboot torque to get specific speed pids to work again.

EDIT: Sorry guys, google removed me for not accepting some new license. It should be back up on the store in a few hours.

As others have said, yes you need to be on the internet every now and then for it to validate your purchase. That being said, it seems to be a major headache for some people recently and I do plan on removing that. I hope to get to it very soon (said that before I know). Had some personal issues last few months but should be good to get that done asap. I will keep you updated.

Sorry again for the issues.

PID - 1723
Equation - (A-64)*625/1000

VVT Advance:
PID - 1724
Equation - (A*35)/255

These may or may not work, but they are worth a shot.
Thanks for these! I was able to get readings off all these PIDs. In order to get them to work correctly, I needed to add the mode to the PID (22). So PID 1723 is entered as 221723, etc. I also needed to type in "auto" on the obdheader line, then they all seemed to read fine. The only equation I haven't tested is for the BATs, as I had used a different equation to set up in Celsius, and then had convoluted that one to create a Fahrenheit one. Just haven't had a chance to run this equation yet and compare. It's hard to tell on the BATS imo, because even with no equation entered (just "A" on the equation line) the PID reads a reasonable number typically for my test around 110. However as temperatures were below 50 during my test and I was highway cruising mostly, this BAT seemed inaccurately high (+60). Using the other formula I plugged in got me BATS in the 30-40 F (20ish C) ranges, which seemed more normal. Thanks for posting these Sidekick!

Any progress on the 3 bar MAP sensor issue? I've got an LX adapter arriving today, and I've been playing with the app a bit. Are you only able to manipulate the formulas for custom PIDs?

I just tried everything out for the first time, and contrary to what I expected from reading this thread, having a 3 bar MAP sensor doesn't seem to be an issue for me. I haven't gone for a drive yet, but at least the vacuum level is what I am accustomed to while idling (AC on and AC off). I'll report back after I drive to work tomorrow.

Default Losing Mazdaspeed PIDs everytime phone goes to sleep

Does anyone else have the problem where you have to re-add the Mazdaspeed plugins every time the phone goes to sleep?

I will add the plugins and go back to the gauge display and everything is happy. Shut the car off, which puts Torque to sleep and eventually turns off the display. Turn the car back a little while later, swipe to unlock the phone and the PIDs on the gauge display that came from the Mazdaspeed plugin no longer refresh. Go back to the manage PIDs area and the list is empty until I re-add the plugins, then they work again... until I turn off the car.

The issue stems from the app wanting to check-in and validate that it's legit every so often. I had a similar experience to your own and became annoyed enough that I rooted my phone and patched the addon with Lucky Patcher. That did the trick.

Matt states above that he's looking into removing the check-in feature, but it's been a well known problem for YEARS and I don't think i've ever seen the Mazdaspeed PID Addon altered or improved in any fashion since its release.

I'm going to assume your device is wi-fi only and Wi-Fi is being disabled when in sleep due to your device settings. This means that when the device comes out of sleep with torque running it fails an authentication check for the plugin.

Unless I'm mistaken, the author has said above that he will be removing this as many of us have had this problem.

The only way I could avoid this on my wifi only tablet is by exiting torque every time I turn off my car. For some reason it doesn't try to authenticate if your wifi is enabled but not connected. Therefore, the other option is to set your tablet to leave wifi on when asleep which is far from ideal for most.

Having wifi turned off when starting/resuming torque seems to bork the plugin instantly. Basically when you are putting your tablet to sleep, wifi is getting turned off and isn't back on in time to prevent the plugin's authentication failure when you come out of sleep with torque running.... hope that makes some kind of stoner sense.
Here's to hoping all of this is removed soon as it's the only serious bug I've encountered.

I can confirm that boost displays accurately with a 3 bar MAP sensor on my Gen 1. I didn't have to do anything special with the Torque app.
