Read some of my threads about FMIC and make sure it's worth the hassle. Unless it's done right, there is the possibility of 0 gains and it's expensive. Meth injection is actually less of a hassle, offers better performance and helps keep the intake valves clean. I've been running it for years now, it is very simple to run on a daily driver.

That piping is crazy overkill and inefficient for smaller turbos (and even big turbos). I have to imagine the throttle response and spool suffer pretty bad. Even 2.5" is overkill. 2.25" is good up to like ~450hp. If you ever tire of the lag, just swap in 2.25" pipe.

ROFL, ok. Your tuner is completely wrong. Ask him on here if he wants to debate his position. I have had like 10 different intercooler setups on my car and done the research as to what an optimized setup is. I wouldn't touch the FMIC option until after meth injection with TMIC. My ETS TMIC with meth injection basically did as well as my custom CP-E FMIC setup with upgraded treadstone intercooler. Don't want to run meth? For k04/mid turbo it's 2.25" piping, ~500-600in^3 volume intercooler (treadstone ideal) with a higher density core. Only reason you need 2.5" or higher is for the big turbo setups, but I think even 2.5" flows to like 700cfm.

ETS TMIC v. CP-E FMIC MS6; guess I need a bigger intercooler

Dale's custom FMIC setup for MS6 - take 2

Why won't any forum sponsors make an MS6 FMIC pipe kit?

TMIC > FMIC > back to TMIC - my journey

OP, here ya go. 3" is rated to 1300CFM and quite inefficient at your airflow level. The k04 flows up to a max of around 500CFM (270g/s). Actually, 2" piping would work and be most efficient for the k04, but most are made with 2.25" for a little room to grow. My BNR S3 setup flows up to 632 CFM and 2.25" piping is more than enough for my turbo that flows up to 350g/s.
*.4 Mach is the point at which air becomes turbulent and losses in efficiency start to occur exponentially. The key is to stay under that speed. You want to use the smallest piping possible that still flows enough to meet your needs. Larger than necessary piping increases lag time with no measurable gain. The velocities are in miles per hour and mach, and the flow rates are in cfm. Measurements for the piping are in inches.

2" piping
1.57 x 2 = 3.14 sq in
300 cfm = 156 mph = 0.20 mach
400 cfm = 208 mph = 0.27 mach

Cool story bro. Right now I'm going to run 3 inch. If it's to big I'll go down to 2.5 inch. I can't do anything now. I have 3 inch pipe set up. Thank for the info.

I guess it does suck when you know you bought shit that won't work very well. I've been there before. You can CSB me if you want, I gave you data to back it up. It wouldn't cost much more to just get a 2.25" piping kit.

Might want consider an established tuner after that bit of sage advice he gave tho.

Well I'm 90 %done with my piping. I need my car back. Like I said. If I have problems with having lag I'll switch pipe size. Thanks for the advise.

Great info there Dale. I had the same sort of discussion with OP a year or so back.

I did a lot of reading and have stuck with an ETS TMIC and added Cooling Mist WMI and a Corksport turbo to my CX7. We got the last 20% / 65awhp just by adding the WMI.

Come on @Project_dog who's this backyard tuner you found who won't even give you a base map for your mods

for the hot side shouldn't you calculate actual sonic speed for temp before fmic?

according @kevin link
Stealth 316 - Turbo Outlet Temperature

even 23 psi would give temp in hot side more than 300degF so sonic speed is already 1.27 times higher than the reference point.

shortly (if not completely wrong) 2" pipe after turbo is good for more than 650cfm.
