Default Took of my Forge bpv...so much different!

Like the title says...took off my bpv today to sell it since I'm thinking of going FMIC with vta(at some point). Boost builds SOOOOOOOOOOOO much slower with the stock bpv. I had no idea what a difference that thing made. Could definitely see myself running leaner in the lower rpms with the forge, with spool so much quicker. Also...immediately had to turn the boost up to compensate. Stock bpv ftl!! Sorry for the pointless post...but trying to rack 'em up!

OK, so finally FedEx delivered my SSQV this morning and I slapped it on before the FedEx guy drove away...

Engine performance is improved!!! I can't say its amazing, but definitely helps. With the stocker, I held at 15.6 PSI and spiked around 16-17 PSI at 50* degree weather, 30* degree weather occasionally spiked at 19, rarely 20 PSI. Todays temps were 79*-80* degrees. I was piking 20 consistently and held boost at 16.6; got an extra 1 PSI. Now, the biggest advantage I found was that the power between shifting!!! With the stocker, the shifts were smooth and progressive...it eased into boost. Now, as soon as you shift and let go of the clutch and floor it, it threw my head back!!!!

Seems like the engine is very responsive between shifts...I know it has something to do with boost... Maybe the valve closes a lot quicker thus recovering boost quicker...?

I like it and I'm happy with it. I wish we could run it VTA though...

I notice the same thing about the shifting. Its kinda cool at first.... and when Im in enthusiast mode(which is most of the time). But sometimes it makes me have a headache just driving around. Im worried I may have had too stiff a spring setup in the Forge for the stocker....

Thats what I like about the HKS SSQV, no springs or adjustment to mess around with...
It is a little jerky sometimes though; when you are trying to be smooth and just cruise.

When I went from the forge back to stock, I lost almost 3psi. Had to turn up the boost to compensate.

i got rid of my SSQV simply because of that hesitation feeling / jerk between gears 1-3. i went back with the stocker, the hks going off constantly at part throttle boost got really annoying.

I did build boost quicker though but the change of "smooth" driving made me deal with the stocker.

Really? My SSQV barely goes off on light throttle lifts...
Are you sure your HKS wasn't defective in some way...

So is the everyday driveability better with the Forge or the HKS? Anyone had both?

I doubt Forge holds the best...wouldn't HKS SSQV hold better due to design?

Not saying that because I have it...

Regarding drivability, I've had no issues... I think the upgraded BPV is better overall for all out performance and everyday use. It prevents the turbo from spooling needlessly just to provide XX amount of pressure. What I mean is, if your BPV is leaking, the turbo is spooling much faster just to compensate for the lost boost.

I've seen about a 1 psi increase with my forge. Boost comes on faster and the car definitely spools harder. I've eased it into first then went wot at about 10mph and spun the tires through first and second into third. Daily drive-ability hasn't really been affected. After I got my DH I noticed that I rarely got into the boost during my daily drive. I usually stay at a 7 vacuum when cruising. The car does nose a bit more when I let off throttle under wot then I get kicked back farther when the boost hits.

I love it though, even the girly "pink". Faster Spool + 1Psi + Uncontrollable laughter of friends when vents = Epic success.

I've noticed about a 1 mpg increase too. I'm up to 22 mpg

I’m not sure the Forge actually "increases" boost rather then lets you keep your hard earned boost, something the stocker seems to have a problem with. But I could see how you would feel like you are picking up a PSI Enjoy it !

The stocker can leak an avg of 1-3 psi, depending on which Japanese dude sat on your valve prior to install.

I didnt notice any increae in boost with my car, from the stock valve to the forge, HOWEVER, i had my valve 2 days after i got the car. So, there realy is no real data. To be honest with you, i have no fuckin clue where my stock valve is even at. lol

...about the OEM BPV, could this be one reason for all the boost spike seen is the MS3? I'm spiking to around 20 psi and settling dow to 15.6.

Spike isnt uncommon in these cars, but the erratic boost has been pinpointed from the stock valve. If you can pony up the $$, get something like a forge on the low end or a turbosmart if you have $250.
