Yes please let us al know how it goes. I'm a little weary on cutting the crash bar. Keep us posted

I just got this set up as well, however I'm not allowed to work on my car unless its in the designated shop area which gives me 3 hours to work on it, boo military base. But yeah, got pretty much everything in right now, however, I'm wondering how the hell you got the hot side where you did, theres like no room at all :S. Also I didn't see you had to get extra couplers which I found out I'll need. I'm hoping I can get something around me in SC so I don't have to wait for shipping, but I think I'm goina have to learn to be patient and get it done right.

I did get the shorter core, only 6" tall, but 3.5" thick so I wont have to cut the crash bar, however, I may loose my lower spoiler or I may have to modify it.

Edit: Pictures!

Definitely going to reroute the piping, the fog lights dont fit the way it is right now, so yeah.

Looks good dude. I have yet to dive into mine yet. Still waiting to have someone weld my bov flange to the 45* pipe. As soon as I get that done I will be ready to go. Ordered some radiator paint, because you can't find that stuff anywhere in a store, to paint and do the stealth look.

Lookin good man. In order to get a nice tight fit on both hot/cold sides, I had to cut out part of the plastic/metal around the lower radiator supports. I used a 4" angle grinder and slowly cut pieces out. It's a tight fit, but it will fit lol.

FWIW, I think @h.h.sk1nny has a better result by keeping the pipes tighter in and the washer tank in place. Not only does it look cleaner with the bumper off, but the piping isn't even close to the fogs when the bumper is on, and the overall run must be a bit shorter as well.

Just finished my setup yesterday.

In case anyone is wondering heres my parts list(all from ebay):

CXRacing Intercooler, $112:
eBay - New & used electronics, cars, apparel, collectibles, sporting goods & more at low prices

CXRacing Piping Kit, $99.99:
eBay - New & used electronics, cars, apparel, collectibles, sporting goods & more at low prices

2.75" x 2.5" Reducing Coupler, $9.57:
eBay - New & used electronics, cars, apparel, collectibles, sporting goods & more at low prices

2.5" x 2" Reducing Coupler, $9.99:
eBay - New & used electronics, cars, apparel, collectibles, sporting goods & more at low prices

Two 90* elbows with clamps, $21.88:
eBay - New & used electronics, cars, apparel, collectibles, sporting goods & more at low prices

4 Extra Clamps, $7.99:
eBay - New & used electronics, cars, apparel, collectibles, sporting goods & more at low prices

2.5" Silicone Hose, $80.33:
eBay - New & used electronics, cars, apparel, collectibles, sporting goods & more at low prices
(bought 6' but only needed about 2', oh well) I really like this stuff because it meant less cutting of pipes because i could basically make any size coupler I needed and while its not super flexible it can bend a little and make life easier.

Made my own BPV flange pipe, $15 to get it welded together at a local shop.

Plus a few small things from the hardware store comes out to about $350

Looks excellent man, paint that thing black and you are good to go. See guys, it's a tight fit, but you can get a FMIC installed on the ms6 w/o windshield washer relocation

Damn, i have this plan when I move away and get myself a garage and second car... Now that I see a few of you guys doing it, makes me even more excited.

3" or 4" piping whole way through for my BT (installing tonight and this weekend), mwahahahhaha.

for now, upgraded TMIC and 2.5" to 4" step-down coupler will have to suffice

2.5" is plenty, even for BT. Get a good sized intercooler

big pipes = big lag
longer it takes to pressurize the pipes, the longer it takes to zoom-zoom...

The turbo outlet is 2" and the intercooler piping is, obviuosly, 2.5" so thats where I used the 2.5" x 2". The throttle body inlet is 2.75" and, again, the BPV flange pipe is 2.5" so I used the 2.75" x 2.5" there

just found and bookmarked all the parts i need...finding everything in blue was way harder than red, and my inner ricer forced me to go with blue to match my blue silicone on my intake lol.

i'm going to be doing cx-racing piping kit with treadstone tr8l core. should be placing my order by the end of this week at the latest!

i'll post up impressions and whatnot once everything is installed, but it probably won't be for 2-3 weeks from now.

should be as good if not better than the >$1000 kits out there for sure with the treadstone core.

wow - nice. My interest just went up but now I'm wondering how one gets confidence that the piping/IC set-up will work well without a full re-tune.

Do you think CobbAP stageII maps will be sufficient for a core they've not tested or is that no big deal or do you plan to take it for a full-tune with a skilled shop?

maybe the specs and piping for that core are pretty-much identical to another common system?

thanks,

@h.h.sk1nny

I'm an MS3 owner, so maybe this question doesn't apply, but do you think that it might have been possible to put the IC at enough of a downward angle to sit under the frame piece that you cut?

maybe with some extra sheet-metal to duct as needed?

Damn, this looks to be a good solution for good price. Was going to go with TMIC for price wise, and wanna keep the sleeper look going. But if I do the FMIC, paint it black and keep the plastic grille, you wont see shit!

Good work everyone that has installed and provide links for parts!

I cant really say much about the tuning. I flashed a stage 2 map once I was done but I've since modified it and plan to get an e-tune.

I know 2.5" piping is pretty common but I honestly went with the core size that I thought would fit/look the best.

Hey I was thinking the same thing, angle the intercooler so that it doesn't hit the crash bar. I wonder if there is room for that either backwards or forwards. Either way will work. I thought of that after watching this video because their intercooler and or radiator is angled forward at the top.

nice vid.

I had to watch it 2X because I was listening to all the wicked compressed air sounds and realized I wasn't really looking at the intercooler.

right idea.

I've seen oil coolers laid flat at the base of the radiator so that air can flow through the rad or down through the IC. In that config, air would naturally convect up through the fins and the draft under the car would pull air down as well. It may reduce some flow through the radiator, but I doubt it'd matter. No doubt some extra screening would be required to protect the unit from the bottom-side.

But, check out this thread, too...
its now talking about the same subject for gen1 fitment.

Specifically, this handy post:

Ya I have a 6. All this intercooler talk is very confusing to be because its all mostly for Gen 1 3's. Ill have yo do more research when I'm home, currently on phone in class.

Edit: Just read that whole thread and no where are they talking about angling the IC. Sure a smaller core would fit under the crash bar but thats not the point. I want to know if its possible to get a large core like TR8 to angle behind the crash bar, who cares if its not in direct flow of air, its still gunna be a million times better than a TMIC. Im not going for looks, my grill will be on and IC painted black.

So, if you have a OCC installed, are you going to have to move it from horn bracket with this setup?

I wanna say yes as i've contemplated the same. My OCC is held in place by the horn bracket. He posted that it needed relocated. So if your OCC is mounted there........

Anyone Ever consider going with smaller piping? 2.25" 2" Just curious. I wonder if the smaller piping is adequate for flow with the K04 and would probably be a little easier to route.

2.25" would be fine for a K04.

@nattun
@h.h.sk1nny

Many questions before i attempt this. If you guys could help it would be appreciated.

Did you have to cut up the tray underneath the radiator that diverts air up to it?

Can you still use the stock bpv recirc hose?

Any problem with pipes popping off? Did you get the ends rolled?

Is your core steady? does it move or wiggle when hitting bumps?

How do you feel about the throttle response compared to the shorter piping of the TMIC? A little more lag before boost hits?

Have you noticed any ill effects to the radiator and its ability to maintain temps?

Do you notice water or debris getting inside the open crashbar?

Looking back, any advice you could give or anything you would do differetly?
