Sorry guys, car isn't getting done today. But I didn't leave you without a couple pix. This is the culprit as to why I am not getting it done today

I am heading out of town for xmas and then I will be back at it Monday. Till then here are some pix of the goods. Everything is great quality. Still waiting on my bpv flange

Sorry, I didn't get a picture of the intercooler before I mounted it. I was too excited and in a hurry. I painted it black as you can tell. I cut out 25" of crashbar and then found some angle iron and slapped it on top of where the crashbar was. Then mounted the intercooler to it.

I agree much better price and a nice big core. I saw a 24x12x4 core intercooler for a bout $100. smart money.

haha I find it funny that you have the TMIC and the FMIC on at the same time, I bet if you had your hood popped open a lot of people would be doing some double takes.

I did the same thing to my 626 gt and came out right at $200 for my fmic setup.

I mentioned doing this in someone elses thread on here and people started flipping out like I yelled fire in a pre-school!
I mean sure "maybe" the core isn't as good as these $1000 kits (if not I doubt by much), but why not at least spend $100 on the piping kit like me and you did off of ebay? Like you said it's all 4 ply silicone couplers, decent T-bolts (I have for SURE seen way worse) and I got super cool black painted tubing. Then spend extra on the core if you're so inclined.

People, don't be afraid to roll the ol' sleves up and cut some tubing to fit lol. It's not hard at all it just takes a tape measure and a saw. The only complaint I could see some people having by doing this method is do to using the kit you'll have to use more couplers due to the cut-to-fit process. Then again if that's an issue you could spend the extra to get a more custom fitting pipe in place of the cut-to-fit pipe from the kit.

Project will be done tomorrow with pix. I ended up rebuilding my k04, it was smoking pretty bad at 88k miles. Now that that's done, I can finish this up. Oh, and no washer relocation!!!! I had to cut a bit of plastic around the radiator.

Alright!!!! First of all, this was a PAIN IN THE ASS!!!! My car has been apart for about 5 days now. I finally got it put back together late tonight. It runs and there are no leaks. Here are some pix of the setup. I had my stock bpv welded on. I will get some of the joints welded when my wife won't beat my ass for spending more moniez.

Cold side

Here is the Throttle body down. I had to rotate the radiator hose for bpv to clear

Hot side, notice you can still see the washer tank!!! woot. Also moved the horn behind ww tank

Font view all mounted. Sorry for the blurry picture

Bumper finally on

That looks good man, I might attempt it as opposed to bying a 800-1200 kit, did you have to get additional pipe? or was the kit good enough?

I used the 2 straights, the 2 90* pipes and the 180* pipe. that's it, had quite a bit left over.

Heck yeah! Looks really nice, doubly so for that price!

Even better for you, you can now sell your CPE tmic and recoup the costs of the new fmic. That should help make the wife happy!

Thanks man. Where exactly did you use the 180? Right off the cold side?

Also, what are peoples thoughts on cutting the crashbar?

I cut the 180 into 3 pieces and used them on the coldside. There is a lot of work involved in this DYI stuff. If you go for it, be prepared for foul language, getting pissed off and some thrown wrenches. Mixed reviews on removing crash bars. They are only used for slow speed impacts. Insurance companies won't like it if their client gets in a wreck and damage could have been saved if the crash bar was still there. I say, F it.

Well, what I plan to do is to go for a FMIC that's not as tall so that can be mounted under the crash bar, but is thicker so it still has has a lot of surface area. I'm looking at this 3.5" thick one (eBay - New & used electronics, cars, apparel, collectibles, sporting goods & more at low prices). The size of that core is 1/3 smaller than the one h.h.sk1nny used, but for my non-BT car that currently has the stock TMIC, it's still a huge improvement

How much space is there from the bottom of the crash bar to the bottom of the grille opening on the bumper? Your intercooler is 9" tall and you seem to have cut almost all the way to the top of the crash bar. I dont want to cut into the crashbar that much but don't want the intercooler to be in a place where there is not optimal air flow.

crash bar takes up exactly half the height of the intercooler, so 4 1/2." The top of the inercooler sits flush with the top of the crash bar. So if you mount the top of the intercooler to where the top of the crashbar was, it'll fit perfect in the grill

I was thinking of going with a smaller core. I found a couple that are 6" tall and 3"/3.5" thick. Still would have to cut the crash bar just not as much.

Hey OP so I am trying to put together a custom FMIC using a TR8 or TR10. If those are the only five pipes you used - I suppose it is still most cost effective to buy the kit rather than buy the pipes separately? The kit = $103 and the pipes separately cost roughly $95
(2x 18'' straight pipe - $14.50 ; 2x 18'' 90* pipe - $15.50; and a 24'' 180* - $35) considering the kit comes with couplers and what not it seems the better deal.

Also I suppose I must order a BPV flange pipe?

Yeah go with the piping kit. Couple extra bux and you get lots of extra material. Better enough than not. I did have to order a bpv flange. it acutally wasn't the right style. so i cut the flange out of the stock tmic piping and had a shop weld it in lol.

So I have the Forge BPV V2 - since it is the same as the stock fitment I believe I can just order the flange pipe and be done with it. I am hesitant to cut anything from my stock setup. As I live in CA and I will have to go back to stock at some point to pass smog....fucking hippies. Correct me if I am wrong but the CXracing flange pipe will work ya?

Don't buy this style. This is what I bought and it didn't fit. You need the flange that has the holes farther apart.

Just finished up ordering all my parts. I went with a shorter core than OP but the price was very close to the same. Plan to tackle this project soon. Gotta find somebody to weld my bov flange to the pipe. I'll post up pics once I'm done.
