Default BOV Install Questions

Okay so I just installed a Turbo XS RFL Bov on my 06' Speed6. Car is stock other than a custom 2.25" axle-back. I used to have a WRX, and when the bov on that was first installed it had a leak and the car almost died every time I let off the gas then would peak back up and be okay. My speed isn't doing that and is holding an idle well, so am I good with leaks? Second question is the best weight to run the spring at. I can tighten and and loosen it. I was playing with it and there is at no point any turbo flutter, but with the spring all the way tight i was getting some backfire. Where would be the best place to run the spring? Tight, loose, half, etc. Thanks guys!

Not sure where I should know it is going to go. I searched the forums for my BOV and couldn't find anything regarding what I am asking and the adjustment of my particular BOV. I thought the point of these forums was to share and ask questions and get responses from people with much more knowledge about my car than myself, not get roasted every time I ask a damn question, which has been two in 7 months.

Step one: uninstall BOV.
Step two: sell your car to someone who knows what they're doing
Step three: look in the mirror and realize who/what you really are
Step four: find yourself at a Honda dealer getting a proper car for your taste.

Could someone with some level of maturity explain to me why installing a Turbo XS bov and asking for the best spring tension is such a laughing matter?

1. Search using Google, not MSF's built in search feature.

2. Our cars rely on BPV recirculation to accurately meter airflow into the engine and adjust fuel trims accordingly. With a BOV, you're guaranteeing that the car will not run within spec.

Not sure which is more terrible. Reading this thread or:

*Helpful Edit*
http://www.mazdaspeedforum.org/forum/foru...7/#post1788665

You're getting afterfires because you're going rich during shifts because your BOV is VTA instead of recirculating. Get a BPV or a guardian angel to resolve this.

Your WRX ran like shit with a this BOV and you are wondering why it isn't running right on your speed6.
I saw your other thread regarding your custom exhaust. You aren't looking for performance. It seems like the only thing you are after are ricer noises.

sigh. Another PA member showing MSF how dumb our state really is when it comes to speeds.

Not interested in ricer sound at all. I wanted a nice rumble out of the car and got that I specifically stated in my exhaust post that I did not want something too loud or droney, just some sound out of it. Thank you for the explanation on the BPV I will look around to swap to one of them instead. I was not aware of the google search and not the MSF search. The BOV came up locally on craigslist and I knew Turbo XS was a good name brand. The previous owner had a piece of shit $40 BOV on my WRX so I was under the assumption that a more expensive nicer name brand would help with the performance of the BOV. I did a good amount of research when I was looking into a BOV or BPV but ended up with this one because it was a very good price for a name brand part, not an ebay knock off. Thank you for the actual explanations I am going to look to swap to a BPV or just go stock. Getting off this forum though clearly I am too stupid and clueless about my car to get any serious answers. Cheers.

1. How does one fuck up a BOV install and then have such a lack of pride to admit it to a group of asshole virgins on the internet?

2. That BOV sucks donkey dick and always gives me trouble. As I advise anybody that has that thing... STEP ONE: Remove it STEP TWO: Put the stock one back on or buy a HKS/Forge/Tial because everything else is garbage.

Or you could stay and learn about your car. Your welcome messages and the link I provided clearly told you to have thick skin on this forum. You will not find a better source of information regarding the platform you've purchased. If you think you'll find better answers from idiots on facebook, you are very much mistaken.

I am going back to stock until I find a nice HKS or something. And thick skin is not the issue I could care less what screen names on the internet say to me I would just like information not pointless insults that change nothing. There were a couple good responses however and I for sure have more knowledge about the difference in the BPV and BOV, aside from the "asshole virgins" hahaha. Thanks guys.

Not to confuse the context of that comment. We surely all are no virgins of the asshole. We are assholes and virgins simultaneously.

money spent on BOV bullshit could be better spent on...oh I dunno, AP, internals, RMM, intake, etc. Hard to believe you did research on the BPV/BOV and still came to the conclusion to buy a BOV for the car, regardless of price. If your BPV wasn't broken, don't fix it. To each their own. Sounds like you're leaving anways sooo, k. bye.

you can tune around the ill-effects of a bov, but not entirely. however, that's a waste of a mod being that it's your first. that's turrible. it's already been mentioned, but a bpv will always be the better option for this car. get yourself an accessport, grab some internals, throw your stock bpv back on, and mount up.

Cheers.
Where in the fuck did you do that research? Why do you think you even need a different valve? Is your stock valve leaking? Most never do. Are you just wanting to make cute juvenile armpit farting sounds?

Truth is that whether by design or accident Mazda came up with a very sophisticated BPV that outperforms just about every aftermarket valve for the boost pressures that are used by the stock K04. They rarely leak.

Unless you run a custom tune designed to work with a vent to atmosphere BOV, any such valve will perform poorly on this engine whose ECU expects monitored air to not escape to atmosphere, but to be recurculated back into the intake post MAF sensor. Those dump valves are for high flow big aftermarket turbos on built engines with forged internals and special intake and exhaust manifold systems, not stock engines with the K04. To use one on a stock engine shouts "ricer" and "poser" even if you did not intend it.

Shit, I've got 114,000 miles on my MS3 with catless dp/rp, cold air intake, and 18-19 psi target tune with upgraded fuel pump internals and the stock K04 turbo, pretty modest power mods for this board, and the stock BPV performs flawlessly.

You need to stay hear and learn. But get some thick skin and listen. This by far the best depository of wisdom and experience in the world about the MS6 and MS3, literally, with quite a few international members. We are glad to help, but intolerant of lazy people who do not research before asking, and then ask about something that has not only been asked and answered a thousand times, but also reflects ignorance about one of the fundamental issues in modding a forced induction engine.

Ignorance can be forgiven because we all have to learn. Stupidity is different, it is unwillingness or inability to learn. Ignorant or stupid. Which are you?

Just included "mazdaspeed forums" in your Google search and it will search our threads.

Put your stock BPV back on.

Stock BPV is back on at the moment. I actually found a nice Forge BPV my buddy gave me for free because he was trading his car. Keeping it stock until I get the modifications that I plan on getting down the road. Learned a lot from this aside from getting a new asshole ripped and car performs much better, so thank you!

Lol, I don't know that I'd go that far. The guys were pretty easy on you.

You definitely have a lot of reading to do before you keep going. Good luck though. Don't leave it stock. Stock is boring.

My only regret to my modding path was not buying a BNR and meth kit before everything else.

Or 3076 if I felt rich.

Our modding path should just go like this:

Internals --> AP --> BNR/3071/3076 --> Meth --> other bolt ons

We should just fix the new member stickies so there's no confusion as to which direction we're going... lol

Hopefully when the college bills begin to calm themselves I can begin to start with those modifications. If I have the full recirc Forge BPV do you think it would hurt or help to put it on? It is just sitting around because I feel bad selling it since he gave it to me for free. I understand that it isn't going to help any performance right now but it is just sitting on my desk as of now.

It ain't gonna do shit but make a shitty noise. *hates the sound of forge BPVs*

Its a recirc valve so its going to do the same job as the factory. And truth be told, if you put an intake on your car your stocker will make a sweet noise too. Aluminum > Silicone.
AwAfrican likes this.

I threw it on. No real change from stock obviously and it barelyyyyy makes a noise. I was going to ask what is the best spring to run but found my answers in older posts that i googled. Blue spring is best stock with Forge. See? I'm learning already.

I told you... You need an intake. That's what makes the magic happen.
