so i am running an hks ssqv in recirc. at lower boost there is a flutter, and i know that the flutter sounds i associated with compressor surge. i have read a lot of places that sometimes the hks valve makes this sound. just wanted to know if anybody else gets this flutter? is running recirculation what makes this sound?

I just installed mine, my recirc hose collapsed due to it bending too far. so i had to cut it and put a 45* fitting in it. helped but the valve still flutters. I called hks directly and they said that is the sound the valve makes. it sounds like this: @ 20 & 35 secs or so

sounds like the valve opens 2 or 3 times. The way hks explained it to me was the primary valve opens, then the main valve hence the double or triple sound. real surge sounds the same but lasts a lot longer (few seconds)

Valve flutter isnt the greatest, but it wont hurt anything. The valve just opens and closes a few times.

for HKS to say that this is "just a sound" that the valve makes is BS. Whoever you talked to doesnt know shit.

have you tried to adjust it?
you might wanna try to loosen the adjustment up a bit 'till you don't get the flutter sound. and make sure there's no kinks @ the recir hose.

hks isnt adjustable

HKS USA usually doesn't have much useful to say in the way of HKS products. They couldn't tell me dick about their intake.

well, since i now know that the HKS isnt adjustable, that could also mean that she was blowing smoke up your ass.

BLACKSPEED, a question i have similiar mods as you and i am looking to get a test pipe and an ets tmic, have you had any fuel problems, running lean, or any other things like that that you might have picked up on the dh. i was hoping to get these two mod's without having to worry about fuel pump internals.

Absolutely no fuel problems whatsoever. After the TMIC and TP my a/f is now a little leaner than stock (which is pig rich). look at my dyno graphs here:

The problem of the fuel pump only seems to happen when running the AP, which is why its been sitting in my room for a few months now while I decide what to do. I really dont have the money for a fuel pump right now.

i hear ya with the money thing, these mods wont come for a couple paychecks after xmas, after that time to save for a fuel pump and some sort of tuning. thanks for the info, one last thing though did you go step colder plugs?

I have them in my glove box for when I do the ap, but I actually might try them now since I get some knock on WOT. I didnt mention that before because ive been getting the knock since day one and had nothing to do with the intercooler or test pipe.

flutter will destroy your turbo ng push/ pulls on the cold side of the turbo, but it sound's cool!! is it held closed by boost? if so lighten spring pressure till it goes away also it slows the turbo spool down cause of the back pressure on the cold side just my .02
