Hmmm... I'll see about doing that tomorrow.

Its was amazing how much the AFR's smoothed out. We should have gotten MAF voltage but I think that the AFR's is just as good. Thanks for helping out with the install, you need to swing by and pick up another one.

It matters a great deal, trust me you don't want to use window screen (tried that, failed horribly bad).

Yes it is, thanks.

Thank you for the info, it looks like just about every intake system likes to have this added to it. It makes sence that they work better with it also. I have a few more that we are shipping out and after that we should have a few more review on them. Thanks for alll the help guys.

I can cut it to any size you need, would a 4x4 inch piece work? I have no idea how big that intake is, so I would just be guessing is I said yes.

Now if you have the stock air straighteners should you keep them in or remove them and replace with the screen? My MAF adapter is a modifed stocker with the stock air straighteners still in.

It shouldn't hurt having both the straighteners and screen. It might actually be better.

FYI, this is nothing new for anyone interested in these screens. Mazda actually uses two sets of screens in the RX8's intake tube. I removed one screen before to see if it would increase air flow, but I didn't really feel the difference.

Also, can someone help me decipher the DH logs...I'm just curious am I suppose to be looking at the AFRs during the boost or through out the entire time?

throughout the entire time, but during boost is the most important.

Why is shipping to PR zip code 00676 is $14.50 for the screen and not the same $4 dollars I was going to buy but that is way too much for shipping

You need to look at them all the time and through out the drive cycle.

To simplify it, yes its just a piece of mesh before the MAF housing.

Sorry, in order to ship there it cost more. Customs forms still need to be filled out for PR, until they get rid of that I have to charge that much.

Not if you send it US Mail.

I used to live down there. FedEx and UPS is a pain in the ass for Puerto Rico shipping.
Just throw it in the US Mail.

Isn't this pretty much the same as the AEM Air Straightener only using mesh instead of the insert for the intake? Only reason I ask is that the AEM piece is $7 vs $17 for the mesh. Seems pretty pricey for a piece of mesh.

Use both. With this deal I am not worried about gains, as long as it doesn't loose power I could maybe deal with even a two HP loss if it really does make the car feel physically better. But if it costs like five and up I'll be fine just how I am.

This looksl ike it will be my next mod however I have a few questions first.

Is this cut to fit our specific intake by PTP or by us?
Can we order through you or would you prefer we order through your site?

Thanks!

*note* if these are obvious answers and I missed them...in my defense...I'm extremely hung over

it is not pre-cut for your intake but it is really easy to cut yourself with a pair of scissors to fit the intake to your needs, I received mine today, cut it to my liking, installed it and I have only noticed good so far, seems like better throttle response, quicker spool, and I also noticed a 1 psi on boost increase on my stock tune, can't promise that will happen for everyone but i know that all these things happened from installing this part

Haha.. was that a pun or did you really just mispell great? Either way good job

I'm also wondering about the restriction, as obviously it is one. I guess it comes down to just being a non discernable one or not.

you forgot everything is backward in mazda world, we dont gain shit by leaning our cars out just make them run hotter, throwing on a big turbo and turning up the boost does nothing but lose power, oo yea so basically whatever works for every other dam car basically is the opposite for us lmao

That is because of flaws in design not because physics is backwards in our world. Like I said until I see some actual numbers to support these claims I am going o hold on to my twenty. I wonder how many people are feeling wallet loss gains. I'm not saying it doesn't work, that is not what I am saying at all. I just want to see if there are substantial loses before I do this.

Looking at the pictures I see potential problems, but it cant hurt anything. The wire mesh is on the verge of being too small, but the big thing is that wire mesh is not thick, that is it is not long, it does will not fully develop laminar flow and the laminar flow that is created will develop into turbulent flow mm's after it.

This is why air straighteners are not just two wires in front of the map but they have length to then to create laminar flow.

But this would be better then nothing as long as it is place close to the map. But on the cobb filter like that i could't see much benifits, plus it's right in front of the velocity stack and negates some of the effects of that.

Below is what you want to straighten air. There are a few available sized and it's sold in 7 inch squares that you can cut to fit.

I don't think of this as a true "straighener". It's not directing the flow in any direction, it's only smoothing out the air velocity over the entire diameter of the intake. That way your maf is reading true and uniform.

If you were to mount a 2nd sensor on the opposite side of the maf housing, despite being an inch or 2 apart, I would be willing to bet the readings will be off without the mesh, but much closer with the mesh.

A straightener is the same thing as smoothing out air velocity. The bottom line is that there is not enough width to fully develop laminar flow which is needed for the maf, and secondly the flow will become turbulent again at an inch (approximately 5 times the width). 20 dollars for a screen that barely works, please. The maf housing will work better then the mesh alone, and if you want truely laminar and straight airflow then you should use the honeycomb, see picture, much cheaper too.
