Default Shaft Pivot Seal replacement urgency?

I know my shaft pivot seal is bad and needs replaced. I've got a nice wet spot under the driver's side of the car to prove it along with some pooling fluid on top of the transmission. Looks just like every picture I've seen where someone's resolved the issue by replacing this seal.

It bothers me driving around like this, knowing my car isn't "right", but my part didn't come in today (or my local Mazda dealership just decided to not call me because they're dicks) and it's looking like it's going to be next weekend at the earliest before I can fix it. Should I have any concerns about this in the interim? I hadn't planned on going and doing any hot-rodding, but still..

Also, I need an AP so I can get rid of the factory tune. How many cocks does one guy have to suck to get one of those fucking things? Fuck!

I just did mine. It went from seeping to puking in less than a week. I would top off the fluid and just watch it closely. Carry some fluid with you and the tools to loosen and tighten the fill plug. If it pukes, top it off at a gas station or parking lot and then drive it home and park it.

@ItsNox; drove with his leaking for quite awhile, however as stated above sooner rather than later. It's a pretty straight forward job, didn't take too long.

I'm assuming this is why the lot detailed the engine bay before selling me the car. Makes perfect sense.

So...no fucking clue how long it's been leaking. I bought some gear lube to carry with me just in case. I'll check levels ASAP. Hopefully the part arrives Monday....

Yeah just get it done you'll feel better about it. Did mine a few months back and it is a pretty easy job. I was worried about low fluid also so I filled it but it only took half a quart after about a month of leakage. Decided to do it myself when Mazda quoted me $400 to fix it.

Yeah, dealerships can suck it.

I've got that page, as well as one with a how-to for seal replacement (I know, it's easy. I like pictures and I'm mechanically retarded) pulled up and ready to go. Debating whether I try this after work or not. It makes me uneasy waiting. It's filthy as a mother fucker on the driver's side of this whore.

Yea I drove around with a semi-slow leak for a good 3+ months without needing to top off or anything. It really just depends on how much you're losing as to how quickly you should replace it. If the shifter starts to feel more notchy or crunchier than usual its time to top off or replace.

Like ms6mil mentioned...its an easy fix. Just make sure you read through the walk-through and its comments a few times. And clean the fuck out of everything around it. You don't want that grime in your trans.

The wait is killing me. Hopefully mazda calls today about the part. Any idea if unicorn blood is carried in stock or not? I might as well flush and refill while I'm at it. God only knows when that was done last. Thinking I'll do the same with coolant when I replace my thermostat that seems to be stuck open.

I replaced my tranny fluid/pto/rear diff fluids when I replaced the seal. I chose Redline fluids and those alone cost a cool $100. The motorcraft you will have to get on Amazon or call local ford dealerships for. There are specialty shops that carry it as well.

On a side note I just remembered that I had my transfer case resealed under warranty and they refilled the trans fluid so that would explain my extended mileage with the pivot seal leak.

Yeah, I'm kind of nervous about mine. Just called and the seal isn't fucking in yet.

They said they do have the XT-M5-QS in stock though. $21.xx/qt. Fuck my ass with a yard stick.

Honestly $21 a quart is not bad. You'll need 3 quarts.

Ah, it's fine. At least I'll know I'm good there for a while. I'll probably go ahead and flush the coolant also, and I'll change the oil to top off the "I'm fucking broke now" sundae.

mine was just dripping a little bit or it was what i though....after i had to replace a tranny bearing, i realised that the tranny missed about 1 quart out of 3.

I can't say it was the complete cause of the bad bearing but it wouldn't help for sure...

So watch it.
